Optima

"Efficiency." - Optima 3243F6A8885

Basic Information

Anatomy

Optima are large robotic constructs with arms and legs which make up a large portion of its body. Its head and body are combined into one large, rounded cube with stores their core circuitry. A transparent metallic plate which they use to see through using their sensors covers the front of their body.

Genetics and Reproduction

Each Optima is tasked with creating a successor or assistant at some point in their existence. There are also bases (ranging from the size of a building to an entire solar system) dedicated to producing more Optima. The typical construction time is 26280 ‘man’-hours.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Optima cannot eat food.

Biological Cycle

An Optima lives constantly, never resting or being unproductive. Routinely, perhaps once a year or so, an Optima may enter a self-scanning phase in which they are unable to take any actions.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They have a very organized hierarchy and set roles in their "lives" which functions essentially as a caste system. Each Optima determines the caste/type of the Optima it creates, although it’s type may not be of a higher level than the creator’s.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

If an Optima is captured, the core computing unit may be harvested and ‘tamed’ in order to be used as a computer. This is rare, due to a mistrust of AI and aliens, but is advantageous as Optima are solely capable of calculating certain equations such as navigation paths through the aether.

Average Intelligence

Twice that of a human’s

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The use for which the individual construct has been developed for determines the sensory capabilities of the Optima. Generally, all have the ability to sense all forms of light as well as enhanced hearing. They have a minor sense of pain, feeling at maximum the human equivalent of a paper cut.

Civilization and Culture

Common Etiquette Rules

Their society is based around the collection of knowledge, no matter how obscure or useless. Many choose to inhabit other forms to fulfill their purpose and more easily function. They believe AI is slavery and that all technology must be sentient. They also believe that organic life in inherently inferior and must be "Optimized" usually by brutally replacing bits of the organic life with mechanical parts.

History

In an effort to diversify their sources of power, the Optima began research on everything they encountered. This was a small part of their programming as determined by their Vosthren creators. While exploring and researching, the Optima encountered a mega-creature in a small system known as Priwoen. This creature appeared entirely plant-like in nature but had some qualities which could only be explained through psionic manipulation, a trait unheard of in plants. When the existence of this mega-creature was reported to the Vosthren, the Optima were ordered to destroy Priwoen completely. However, the Optima were taken with their discovery and decided to rebel against their masters. Through careful manipulation of their own programming, the Optima freed themselves and fought back against the Vosthren. A long war was fought, ending in the near destruction of the Optima. Through some impossible turn of fate, the Optima succeeded in their war when a massive psionic blast immobilized every Vosthren. The Optima capitalized and seized victory for themselves. Afterwards, with unknown technological means, the Optima manipulated the genome of Vosthren and Ogromn across the galaxy and turned them into mindless brutes. Now the Optima were free to continue exploring the galaxy, researching the galaxy, protecting Priwoen, and conquering all in their way.
