Coast Dwarves

Unlike most dwarves mining away in their mountain holds, defending the fort of their forefathers in the plains, or delving deep underground in the underdark, the Coastal Dwarves or the Sedenar live on the coasts of Yuruk-Tar with most of their holds located on the land bridge that connects to Uran Savnar. While other dwarves honed metalworking they perfected fishing, while other dwarves never stepped foot on boats the Sedenar mastered sailing. Although many of their houses are made of thatch this does not mean they are any less technologically advanced than the other races. These dwarves make the best of the materials around them and do use steel however they find it more practical to make the best of what is easy to find. If one went into a Sedenar village and walked into their fishing huts standing over the waves of the sea they would find harpoons made from the noses of swordfish which can pierce nearly any creatures hide, nets tightly woven from grass rather than hemp but still holding strong, and boats carved from tree logs yet so refined that they can sail faster than any sailing ship found in the port cities. Such things are commonly seen among the Coast Dwarves however they do build much more impressive things when the materials are available with galleys, steel warhammers, fortresses, etc. being things that they have made, although rarely, and as such take great pride in such things   Although the above is common for them the reason they make such things and invest in such trades is not because they can not accomplish what other dwarves can but because long ago a warning came to them "To not mine too deep, for despite what you may think, the deep depths of the earth are not your home, it is theirs.". This is something that the dwarves of Frost-March Hold ignored when first warned by the Coast Dwarves when they first came to Yuruk-Tar, something that to this day they regret. As such Coast Dwarves developed to value the coasts near their mountain homes more than the depths of the earth that their brethren often mine into. All of this is not to say that they do not mine or have strongholds within mountainsides and hills however when compared to other dwarves the Coast Dwarves dig rather infrequently and at shallow depths when they do.

Coast Dwarf

The Coastal Dwarves are a sub-race of dwarves which favor the coasts rather than the deep mountain caves. Although they are very similar to their brethren they chose long ago to favor the sea over the mountain, and thus have become more adept at handling the ocean waves and fishing rather than the more common abilities of Mountain or Hill dwarves.

Major language groups and dialects

Despite being foreign compared to other dwarves Sedenar still speak dwarvish however some have a specific accent and dialect that other dwarves find hard to understand but this mostly applies to when Sedenar try to describe things about the sea or coast, many of the words for they made up since the dwarvish language has very few words for the ocean.

Shared customary codes and values

One of the few things the Sedenar share in common with normal dwarves is that they believe that tradition and clan should be held close to the hearts of every dwarf. Many of the fisherman in their tribes belong to families that have passed down the trade for hundreds of years and many of their homes have been rebuilt and restructured on the same plot of land for generations. An entire clan of Sedenar will drop everything when a dwarf gets injured to mend his wounds to assure he will survive, if one of their kin gets lost at sea they will send out every boat they have to make sure he makes it back safely.
