Disaster / Destruction
An epidemic that struck each and every deity of the time. Many perished, and while a cure was eventually found the damage done is hard to calculate. In the aftermath what was once a united pantheon split in two; the Sacred Order and the Unbound.
Going as far back as the begining of the Era of Enlightenment, the Gods presence on Karnia was in decline. They had withdrawn, still appearing from time to time in dreams and through avatars, but never in person. In the Era of Storms this took an even worse turn, as one by one the Gods all fell sick to an unknown ailment. From mortals to the divine, all worked towards overcoming this hardship to no avail for close to 30 years. During this time almost half of the original deities perished. Those that survived were mere shadows of themselves, and the magic which they facilitated all but vanished. Oddly enough, even the magic of wizards, sorcerers and the like, all of whom should have had nothing to do with divine magic were greatly affected. The plague ended when a new celestial body entered the sky. Called a "Moon", its arrival heralded the end of the God-plague as in the following months those who survived had a mostly complete revival. Even in them, however, things did not go entirely back to normal. There were many who did not return to how they were in the past. These deities would go on to form the Unbound, while the remainder became the Sacred Order.
