Clan Hunter

Trackers & Warriors

Wearing straps and packs made from dark plant fibres, these four lean grasslanders gather over their fallen prey. The white-tail buck was average sized but the antlers were quite large and the tines spread out nearer the skull than usual. It gave the impression of two clawed hands reaching from inside the dead animal. Crouching down to look closer at the antlers, a woman visibly older than the three other hunters tugged at an antler and swiveled the entire head towards the others.
"Xenie said she needed new spurs for her cleats, right? I think these could work." She squinted up at the others and guestured for them to gather closer. As they got comfortable on the ground, she continued. "Does anyone remember what Servac was talking about yesterday? I think he wanted white fur but I don't know if this would work."   With the others now settled around the body, the wiry woman stood from kneeling with exuberance and stradled the deer while pulling both forelegs, turning the deer on its back. "Who has the mallet?"

Career

Qualifications

Much like an apprentice in any field, the first steps down the hunters' path is to declare your intentions and find someone to teach you. Usually a hopeful hunter will discus it with their immediate family or close friends before requesting that the clan gathers. Once everyone is together they announce their desire to become a hunter. It's the most active and dangerous role you can take in the Uklidnit tribe so some parents don't want their children to be hunters, especially if their child is still quite young or lacking obvious physical talent.

Once someone becomes a hunter, they are a hunter forever. Should anything prevent them physically from hunting, they'll often attend duties among the moudri-vud while retaining their status as a hunter and contributing their training and experience to the clan. There are very few situations where anyone would resign or be removed from the role but among them are the simpliest violations; murder, betrayal, or incompetence that led to either murder and/or betrayal.

Perception

Social Status

The Uklidnit tribe values utility and the skills learned as a hunter for your clan are the highest form of currency. Although the clans couldn't survive without those maintaining the home camp, the hunters spend their lives courting danger by searching it out nearly every day. This has a predictible effect on most individuals' ego, however since they spend most of their time away from the clan, it's not long before they return to their usual senses. Once the initial swell of confidence subsides the clan slowly begins to come to the new hutner for practical assistance - broken equipment, health concerns, etc. Many hunters find the assistance they can provide within the clan more meaningful than serving as a scout or warrior.
