Arcana
The Mana Anima
Arcana is the modern word used to describe the energy tapped by invokheir. Throughout history this force has also been known as magic, spellcraft, miracles, and divine blessings. This is how most mortal species invoke magic.
History
Traditional Magic Period
Since the beginning of human history there have been individuals capable of incredible supernatural feats - conjuring rain, stoking fires for warmth, and even healing sick. This power is a part of Kaos and has existed since the creation of the world. The fae grew from the earth and this magical is infused in their very life-force, whereas most other earthbound creatures must actively tap into the powers of arcana through specific actions - most commonly known as spells.
Religious Miracles PeriodAs faith in the Speaking Gods, especially Vusin, developed, these spells were refined into religious dogma and rituals aimed at promoting the individual ethos of their patron deity. During a period when humans were starting to establish permanent towns and agriculture, organized religions worshiping Maenar, Rinen, and Vusin became most prominent, as their honoured domains overlapped significantly with the new needs of the people. Most folk traditions and religious practitioners prefer the old ways of speaking, believing that analytical minds have corrupted the wondrous nature of such practices.
Modern Age ArcanaThanks to the safety and prosperity provided by the Allegran government, organizations like the Dannamore have advanced the study of arcana to the real of a physical science. Now, arcana has been included in scientific studies for hundreds of years. There are still minorities that practice historical applications of magic and 'miracles' but the prevalent study of arcana is through the teachings of academies and science.
Disciplines of Arcana
Currently there are seven areas of study identified at the Dannamore Academy as individual disciplines or schools. Each discipline denotes a specific application of arcana. It should be noted that two invokations from different disciplines may have similar or nearly identical results achieved through slightly different means, for example; a conjuration invokation could summon flames from a nearby sconce, while an evocation may be able to simply ignite flamable materials outright.
During the modern era there are two primary forms of manipulating arcana; formulae (rituals) and invocation (spells).

Originally there were eight wands, however in an unknown cataclysmic event, one of the Primis, along with an entire pillar of creation - the Eighth Wand, was destroyed and permenantly reduced the power of arcana across the realm.
Non-Arcana Metaphysics
Many beings across Kaos have supernatural abilities that do not specifically invoke arcana, but instead represent innate ties to natural elements or environments. Most often seen among the fae, these powers sometimes appear to be arcana, however they are not always bound to the same structures required for a human to invoke - they are part of the world and as such have a natural connection to the world around them. These include many types of Elemental powers that conjure and control Air, Earth, Fire, & Water.
