Titi Tetu (Tee-tee Teh-too)

Titi Tetu refers to both the places on the Bane'ile home world and the stone obelisks that are used to communicate the comings and goings of each tribe along their regular migratory routes in a practice commonly known as tagging.

History

Since the beginning time, the Bane'ile people would migrate across the habitable zone from north to south and back again following the warmth of summer. Each tribe would crisscross the migratory routes in different directions only coming together in one place for the festival of Titi'abule. At regular intervals along these routes, were places known as Titi Tetu where stone obelisks had been erected. These Titi Tetu were a bit taller than the average height of a person and were carved from a type of very smooth dark red stone that is quite durable. When a tribe passed through, they would tag the Titi Tetu, meaning that they would mark the stone with pictographic symbols using the bright yellow oily paste found in the center of the stems of the butu plant. These were simple messages consisting of the symbol idenitfying the tribe, when they passed through and which way they were going when they left. When the tribe passed through the same Titi Tetu again, they would wipe off the old message and replace it with a new one. This tagging at the Titi Tetu was a way for all of the tribes to keep in touch with one another during their travels, and the practice continued on even after modern communication technology became common.   After the Bane'ile home world was destroyed when its binary stars collided in a super nova, the people began to scatter across all of Kantostara, and they began to use the Titi Tech system that their engineers had helped to construct under the tutelage of the Singers of Songs to continue their practice of tagging through interstellar messaging. They made use of the visual symbols common to most virtual keyboards to construct a pictographic language that is commonly refered to as tag which is now used by most interstellar travelers to send messages logging their travels.
