Veniga

Veniga is a newly aspiring city east of Alt-Alextra  Since the unfortunate downfall of their neighboring city in the west, Veniga's has become the top trading city in the western parts of the Andric Empire . Formerly known for its rich harvest season as granary of the Empire it now has become a fulfilling trading port for everything that has to be delivered on the water. Veniga inherited the importante of Alt-Alextra in this region only rivaled by the city of Elderby. Veniga is one of the oldest cities of the Andric Empire and seems to be one of the few cities where you can find the architecture of the ancestors of the Empire.

Demographics

Humans hold most of the major positions in the city. As always the halflings established their tradenetworks fast in the city after the fall of Alt-Alextra. Since workforce was needed the half-elves could use their leverage to gain better wages and living conditions, some could even afford lower-middle class housing. Even though the situation is better here they are still seen as outcasts. Their access to proper education is almost always denied despite having the money to afford it. The half-elven community has seperated schools from other races, which are strictly supervised by human government officials. This lack of education holds the half-elven population back to achieve more higher class positions.

Government

As a so-called free-city of the andric empire, they still have to answer to the Emperor, they gain a lot of freedom to govern their city. The city is ruled by a city council, which is almost entirely made up of the wealthy and nobility - half-elves have no right to enter the council. The citizens do have to listen to the councils, but the newly elected council has done much to lose the trust of the Empire. The Senate in the capital is debating to revoke the title and the rights of the Free City. The Emperor has not positioned him clearly, like so often in recent times he stays away from political affairs.

Defences

Veniga had a strong wall built on both sides of the bridge from the river's edge to the docks in a defensive effort to prevent any sort of attack from behind. The walls also provided a safe place for people to gather during times of emergency. A part of the river has been diverted to create a moat around the northern and eastern wall. Two army corps have been placed here by the Senate as an additional security force -unofficially as a fast response corps to take the city if they go rogue . Each corps has a general and a corps commander. Both of them consist of approximately 5,000 foot soldiers, 2,000 cavalry units and artillery units.

Infrastructure

Veniga's Tradingport is located where the river meets the ocean. They export large amounts of food to the capital city Adorra. The windmills in the north and east of Veniga are used to process grain. There are multiple granarys in and around the city to store the food. It has a long history to sustain the population, so its location gives them good economic conditions.

Districts

Veniga has two districts, all in the same area - They are called Lathander and Gwyneth. In Lathander is the great market near the portside, most of the shops and the Merchants Guild House are located here. The town hall, the university and the university library are all located there. There are some small inns with rooms for rent. In Gwyneth are mostly bakeries, cafes, taverns and inns. Gwyneth is the place where the wealthy and noble waste away the days in pettiness.
