Spellweaving

This is a rudimentary summary on Spellweaving and the magical tissue. Every spellweaver needs to understand that they manipulate the threads that created their world. Every living being and every rock is made up of many threads that create something whole and by pulling the threads they manipulate it. There are a few ways to manipulate the threads, understanding them all would take many lifetimes but to name a few humanity, has mastered would be magical infusion, rune smithing, casting and mending and the shunned form of soul devouring. Elven techniques of mastering magic shall be discussed elswhere in this book. Each of these spells requires intricate knowledge about how magic works. This is my attempt to explain the very first steps a novice of the arcane arts might take.    There are many threads that build the magical tissue. The most influential threads and pures forms of existence of the threads are life, darkness, light, air, heat, cold, water and earth. The purest forms of these threads might exist in different abundance in various regions of this world. Many of these purest threads have related threats a thread of fire will be part heat, air and light and a tiny bit of life.    Casting   Spellweaving through casting, as an example for summoning fire requires tapping into magical tissue and seeking for threads of air and heat. Air on land exist in abundance; if one isn't trapped in a large cave system, but finding heat is different story. In extreme cases one could take their own bodyheat to generate a thread of warmth; the drawback, of course, one would feel immensly cold. But if the caster doesn't mess up the spell, they get a warm and sizzling fire to regenerate what was lost.   Attention, reader; If there are not enough threads of magic of a certain element in the area, an unskilled mage might not be able to cast the spell. So be aware of your enviroment. If one attempted to weave a spell of fire in an extremly cold region, there wouldn’t be enough threads of fire in the area for unskilled Spellweaver to weave it.   Caster Stones   To counter the problem of not having enough threads containing the much needed element of magic, the tinkeres of the Andric Empire came up with the caster stones. These stones have magical threads of certain elements woven into them, so if necessary they can be used to support a particular spell. The stones will glow when called upon, and their light is absorbed from the surrounding magical strands to produce, for example, a fire spell. These caster stones have limited usage; they should be used with great care you might not know when you really need those stones. I'd like to mention that every manipulation of the threads can be discovered by any weaver who wants to, as they might notice that threads have been taken from the enviroment. The usage of caster stones is harder to detect, as the magic user doesn't take threads directly from the enviroment. So if you need to cover your tracks, you can rely on caster stones, but it's best not to use any magic in this situation.    Soul Devouring   Another art to obtain missing magical threads, is the forbidden and mostly forgotten practice of soul devouring. Because of certain ethical concerns I won't cover it too much but it has to be spoken about as it isn't evil from it's roots. Also be warned reader: this is advanced magic that will cost your life and more if you used uncorrectly and unwisely. For Soul Devouring the caster uses the threads of living beings such as humans or animals. Learning this art is difficult and dangerous. Done wrong, the student of this art will bind parts of the victim to themselves. The body of a victim will rebel against such an act, and therefore absorbing someone's threads is a excruciating undertaking. Breaking the connection of this spell at the wrong time will lead to an indescribable end of both the caster and the victim.   Mending   Mending is a form of spellweaving which is similar to the profession of casting, but here the Spellweaver uses their power to heal and repair things. A mender taps into magical tissue and patches the destroyed filaments by adding the surrounding filaments back into place. There have been cases where menders used themselves to mend wounds of others: This has an effect: the user loses a part of themselves and the patient gained a new personality trait. If they have to replace a limb of a person, they usually use the threads of dead animals. Some menders also work as craftsmen to repair broken stuff around houses. It has to be said that using mending to safe someone from a cruel faith like the loss of limb or disease, is the most noble form of Spellweaving as it requires a sacrifice. If there is no emergency I would revert to Alchemy, in which my trusted colleague Albus is very well versed, as it does not require as much of the user.      Rune Weaving & Magical Infusion   While rune smithing and magical infusion are forms of spellweaving that are permanent and find their usage mostly in craftsmanship their core difference is on how they manipulate the materials they work with.   Magical Infusion   The weavers who use magical infusion have learned to combine the filaments of threads to create new materials and elements. This is a profession not everyone is capable of as it demands a lot of concentration, time, endurance and year long studies to be decent at it. An Infusionist disassembles a thread into its core parts and combines it with other threads and a good infusionist can create about 1 kilogram of new material in a day.    As example creating an armor that always keeps the wearer warm an Infusionist takes the threads of leather and adds the right amount of threads containing heat. If the Spellweaver takes too many strings of heat the material might combust or if the weaver is hestitant takes too little it might not make a difference. Most Infusionist start to learn their craft by creating caster stones, as it is a simpler task in the profession.   Rune Embroidery   Embroiderer have found out that there is a space in between the threads of the magical tissue in certain objects. They use these spaces in between magical tissue to stitch their own strings of magic in between the material changing the density of the material and creating an alloy around the crafted object. The skill of rune weaver and tools determine how narrow they can stitch their patterns. Every stitch a skilled rune weaver does has been precisely calculated, if it is off by just a millimeter the pattern has lost quality. The best of the best embroider in micrometer and there has been words that some craftsmen made even more precise pattern. Often a rune smith stitches symbols onto the product to remind the user what properties it is embedded with and of course they stitch in their signature. The most common use is the application of cooling stones to keep foodstuff fresh or have heating stones to cook a meal on,   Preface of the Book the Eterna Arcanium by Saint Kain.
