Centavault

Centavault is the biggest settlement of the dwarfs in Kandria. It is located near the mountain range Thorny Peaks. While it is founded by the dwarven Kingdom of Lóng Huǒ, the Andric Empire has regional claims on this particular area.  It has often been besieged by dwarfs and human alike and has history from both sides. Centavault has become a city for outlaws since the dwarfs rarely out of their mountains these days and the empire doesn't have enough resources to spare.  Also the last siege in the year 9790 ended in a truce giving it an independent state. Officially the Andric Empire is assigned to govern this city under the watch of dwarfen ambassadors, but neither the ambassadors nor the minister of the Andric Empire cares. To make matters worse a powerful bandit horde has settled themselves in this city and the ruling parties are not willing to do deal with this problem.
For the architecture of Centavault, it is a which is carved into the mountain and spreads along the river with houses made out of the same sand-coloured stones of said mountains. Many narrow and crooked streets and ruined buildings prove that this was once a tall and proud city, where trade prospered but this has been a long time ago. Only the mighty gates to the dwarven kingdom, with various golden runes and metalwork, show that there was once wealth in this now forsaken and war-torn town. Near those Gates is the market place, the deserted stone made market stalls are witnesses for a time in which goods of enormous value were traded here. Nowadays some of those market stalls serve beggars as a warm place for the cold nights in the desert. Nowadays some of those market stalls serve beggars as a warm place for the cold nights in the desert.

Unlike someone would suspect the dwarfs and the humans don't live in separate quarters, some of them are neighbours and others share a home together. What is even more interesting human, dwarfs and half-elves live here without racial tension and build something good together, a community. But what brings tension into this city is to whom they pledge their loyalty to the Dwarfen Kingdom or the Empire? Because of this corrupt government many outlaws have settled here and brought their gangs with them, which leads to turf wars now and then. Also, a new movement has arisen which demands independence from both the Dwarven Kingdom and the Empire.
