Jenadian Elvish

The Jenadian Elves are an ethnic group living on the island of Jenades in the Westward Isles who are descended from both the original human inhabitants of the island and from mostly Wood and Sea elves who underwent waves of migration away from the Duskwoods as the elvish kingdom experienced many decades of internal political turmoil.   While initially hesitant to share land and resources with the incoming migrants, the native human Jenadians gradually accepted the newly arrived elves to their land and culture, sharing their language and knowledge of the land and its surrounding region.

Naming Traditions

Unisex names

Names are rarely gendered (as is the norm in Kintet-speaking communities, as the language lacks grammatical gender for nouns or pronouns), and are usually in the Jenadian-elvish dialect of Kintet which maintains older features of the Kintet language.   Example: the given name Sorné "[He/she/it] has loved" uses much older phonetics than the (relatively) standard modern form of the Kintet language, where a name with the same meaning would instead be Orráda (Urade- before case endings).

Family names

Family names typically retain their Elvish roots, and stretch back to before extensive elvish settlement on Jenades.   Example: Holimion is an archaic Elvish surname belonging to Sorné Holimion, despite his family living on Jenades for generations and all of their first languages being Jenadian-elvish Kintet rather than their ancestral "pure" Elvish language.
