Straka

The Southernmost Fallen City, Straka is geographically isolated, and as such has stayed out of the politics and wars of the north more so than other nations and Fallen Cities.   That said Straka has made a name for itself with its impressive Airship navy and usage of airships for trade. With the vast Desert of Ulb surrounding the city airships are often the safest (and only) way to travel to other parts of Kalin. In fact Straka is the only Fallen City to have ventured past Kalin in recent memory in the somewhat disastrous expedition south in the so called “Strakan Expedition”.   The city is ruled by the Negus, a hereditary monarchical title that is passed down from generation to generation. The current Royal Family has ruled since the fall of the Torva’Ir many centuries ago.   The city widely worships Hakir, the man-turned god who led the rebellion against the Torva.

Demographics

Straka is split between a middle class made up of craftsmen, traders, soldiers, and explorers. Explorers are common with so much of the Desert of Ulb being unexplored. The lower class is probably better off than some middle classes to the north, with Straka's unique position benefiting them greatly.   The city is about 70% human, 10% Olark, 7% Tiefling, 5% Dragonborn, 8% other races.

Government

Straka is ruled by the Negus. A hereditary monarchical title that has remained in the hands of the Fa'Ajasa family since the days of Hakir Fa'Ajasa.

Defences

Straka is guarded, in part, by the Desert of Ulb that surrounds it, making approaching armies obvious and already on shaky ground when invading. Additionally Straka has the best airfleet in the world, with its command of the skies being almost unchallenged. Finally the Blades of Hakir fill an elite role in the military.   All of that said though the average Strakan soldier is nothing special, often a conscript or levy. Straka has a small regular army which is better trained, but it barely has 5000 soldiers at any one time.

Industry & Trade

Straka, being in a giant desert, has to import a lot of its resources from its outer territory. In the city itself explorers and traders are very common trades beyond your average craftsmen. Traders will chart airships to go south and trade in the exotic lands there, or trade Strakan goods in other Kalin markets and visa versa. Explorers are also very common as much of the desert around Straka is unexplored.

Guilds and Factions

The Blades of Hakir are the most notable organization in the city, being based and formed in Straka.

Architecture

Architecture in Straka is arabian themed, with colorful and painted roofs and stand stone construction. Minarets and domes for days.

Geography

Straka is built in the Desert of Ulb, while the city sits on a large Oasis the area around it is very harsh and sand bitten. It's not an easy place to live without the protection of Straka's water and walls.

Natural Resources

Straka sits on an Oasis, but otherwise it mostly gathers resources from the lands it controls.
