Aremais Valaxxi

Emperor Arem Harriot Valax

Aremais was the spitting image of Emyri, and Humanity at large. Not because he was perfect, but because he was flawed. A man with his history and faults and mistakes, still rising to meet the challenges we faced over those years. The things he accomplished didn't bring about a nirvana, and were sometimes at the expense of the innocent. But were it not for him, we might still be squabbling over our acres like back in the Struggles, floundering in the mud.   -Karakais Pyraxi

Personal history

Born an only child to a poor couple working as Pathcutters, Aremais' childhood was an impoverished but happy one. Being a Pathcutter was back-breaking work, but granted an unusual level of freedom from the clustered and stoic life of laborers in Cormyr.   Aremais' parents were killed in the crossfire of a battle between Araan and Kal'mortais in the hills of the Southern Emyr Expanse outside of Cormyr, returning home from a job. Orphaned at a young age, he was forced to work as a laborer in and around Cormyr through most of his childhood.   Through his determination, Aremais was the head of a party of stonecutters by the age of 19. In his free time, Aremais would write fantastic stories of dragon-killing knights, brave explorers, and wandering travelers. His writings caught the attention of many of his fellow laborers, many of which desired to be economically liberated as he did. Over time, Aremais educated himself on famous past authors, leaders, and generals, and became somewhat of a public figure, organizing his small community in Cormyr.   During one of the many Emyrian Struggles, a local lieutenant came to forcefully enlist young men in Aremais' community. Usually, due to the lack of power of the poorer communities, this was allowed to happen. Aremais, however, refused to enlist as well as refused to allow the lieutenant to take of the boys with him. Frustrated, the lieutenant eventually quarreled with Aremais, beating him bloody. In response, many of the residents of Aremais' neighborhood struck back, eventually hunting down and attacking the lieutenant in a mob. After driving the recruiters from Cormyr, Aremais thanked his community, but would later recount the horror he felt for the fervor with which the mob attacked the lieutenant.   In the following year, Aremais successfully lead a movement in Cormyr to end the practice of enlisting the powerless to fight wars for the powerful. Striking a chord with the massive impoverished population, Aremais eventually came to head the entire city of Cormyr with their support. There was a massive exodus of the warlords in Cormyr, as Aremais consolidated power.   At the age of 26, Cormyr was declared as quarry by a neighboring city-state, and was forced into war. Aremais, instead of repeating the tradition he fought to eliminate, used the remaining wealth confiscated from the warlords to pay his recruits up-front. Anyone that willingly joined his army would be given a lump sum of gold, as well as given to their family should they not survive. Upon the arrival of the opposing army, Aremais personally led his army to victory, but at great cost. Never being trained in armed combat, he relied on the sheer number of warriors at his disposal. After this battle, Aremais declared Cormyr and it's lands a sovereign state, naming it The Emyrian Empire of Man.   Leading the Empire over the next many decades, Aremais united nearly all of human civilization in Kal'Araan, from The Northern Emyr Expanse all the way south to The Oasi Shelf. Nearly all of these unions were peaceful, save for those who sought to remain in power fighting back against their own populous. At the age of 57, Aremais headed the largest empire in known history.   At this age, Aremais took a sudden leave from the throne, leaving it in the hands of Karakais Pyraxi, a lifelong friend who was part of the stonecutter's guild. In an emotional fervor, Aremais set out into the western frontier known today as Valax's Cauldron. Over months he survived and attempted to cut a path northwest through the thick dangerous wilds.
While I am glad to have brought what order I can to this mad world, there still remains chaos on our borders and frontiers unexplored. I have, for too long, ignored my true destiny. That destiny which my parents followed as well, to be Pathcutters. The Emyri spirit is alive once more, and no longer needs my guidance. I must pursue my new duty, to expand our borders and push back the chaos of Kal'mortais and Araan.
Valax's Cauldron proved to be too much for even him, finding himself wounded, exhausted, and deathly ill on the banks of the Arem Channel. According to Veseryn Faevyre, Aremais lay in the waters and passed peacefully from his conditions. He was given a full customary Eladrin funeral, and remains on The Isle of Glenmont to this day.
