Bear Leader
The Leader of the Bear Clan is a title held by an individual until their death or retirement. It is the highest rank within the Clan.
In order to choose a new Clan Leader the Council meets with all the eligible candidates. A Clan member is eligible if they are a close blood relative of the previous Leader, or if they have performed to a high level within another aspect of the Clan. Normally there are three or four candidates, the record is six.
Each candidate hold their hand over the Clan crystal while making a speech about their vision for the future of the clan. As they talk the magic of the crystal determines their heart, and glows in different colours.
After all candidates have finished, the council disscuses their interpretations of the lights and the speeches. One candidate is chosen, who then becomes the next Clan leader.
Once the choice has been declared to the Clan, they process to the old dragon temple outside the citadel. There the new leader swears to uphold the Clan by dropping blood onto the crystal.
The Clan leader makes all the important decisions about the Clan. These include allocating new Clan members to their roles, agreeing all liaisons between Clan members and humans, supporting those who are unable to fend for themselves, etc. They have a council of three to support them, as well as village chiefs in each of the villages across the land.
They live most of the time in the Citadel, as that is the major city within the best Clan lands. But every year they tour round to lead the manifestation tests for all those in their sixteen summer who wish to join the clan.
