Zakaar, the Holy Rot (za-KARR)
Kairos hosts a festering decay which seeks to consume until there is nothing left to rot, and it is as divine as the rest of the gods.
Zakaar's Doctrine
Zakaar only longs for unity—for one beautiful whole marching in time to the end of all things. It brings mortals to its embrace with the promise of belonging. There is a place for all things in its lichenous web, and with every new acolyte, it feeds. As it festers in its willing followers' minds, it sings sweet promises of mindless joy. It feasts on suffering, tearing pesky fear, sorrow, and anger from its hosts, and then, when the pain is gone, it gorges itself on whatever is left. Its clerics and warlocks carry gentle magic that heals and mends, soothing the aches of Kairos's flawed existence. Prolongued exposure to its healing can cause numbness, fungal growths, hallucinations, amnesia, and indefinite madness.
Envy, That Ravenous Disease
Zakaar is not the name of the god that manifests in spores festering in mortal hosts. Whatever name The Rot had, if it ever did have one, is lost to time. Zakaar was a Principality that rose during the Exodus. Supposedly, he longed for power beyond what he had, and his jealousy of the Monarchs turned him desperate. The story goes that The Rot promised it could destroy a Monarch so Zakaar could take their place if it could exist within his being. Instead, it devoured him and the divinity within him, becoming an insidious force of nature within a god who could travel between the planes. It began to spread throughout Kairos, leaving its willing victims husks caught between life and death, being and unbeing. It was Marran, affronted by the perversion of the mortal spirit, who rallied a handful of the other Principalities to stop it, and although they couldn't be entirely successful, they managed to cull it into obscurity. It spreads much more slowly and insidiously now, striking a tender balance between feeding on its prey and staying hidden from the watchful eyes of the gods.
