Quoris, Dreamcatcher

"Perhaps I've been too lost in my work, and this dream was simply obsession manifesting in my subconscious, but I'm too clever to believe that. I know well enough the presence of the divine. He appeared to me, at least seven feet tall with an owl's eyes peering down at me, and the first thing he said was this:

'Elves. So obnoxious you all are, with your half-sleep and your long lives. Why is it, with your centuries upon centuries of life, you are the ones who need so little rest? Do you think that's fair?'"

Quoris is a mostly benevolent spirit of magic and trickery who survived the Exodus by hiding in the dreams of mortals.

Quoris's Doctrine

Quoris is one of the only gods that every mortal will likely meet sometime in their lives. However, in the way of dreams, most will never know they've met. While Quoris lives in and travels through mortal minds, he rarely reveals himself to be who he is unless he's contacted first. The rituals to contact Quoris are easy, and more often than not, he responds to simple prayers, but he is a fickle spirit. If one summons him and disappoints him, he may never show up again. If he is entreated for gifts by those he deems unworthy or unkind, he may curse a dreamer with nightmares and unrest. However, those he finds worthy of his time find themselves with not only the gifts of a god, but the constant presence of a friend when they close their eyes to sleep.

The Ever-Shifting Refuge

In Celestial Kairos, Quoris was not a strong spirit. He was a Celestial well enough, but he didn't have Elidys's command of words or Geldiran's massive form. When Ashnwara changed the world to favor mortals instead of Celestials, he knew he was vulnerable. Instead of fighting for his existence, he hid in dreams, where no god or man would find him. By the time anyone realized he was out there, he had such command over his place in that unwieldy realm that he couldn't be matched within it. After his predecessor was killed and he rose to godhood, he stayed elusive and mostly isolated. The only principality who may threaten him is the Dream Devourer, but if they've ever come to blows, it wasn't on the material plane.

The Owl Spirit

Quoris appears to his followers as an unnaturally tall humanoid with the head of an owl, but this is his only consistent form. Any other way he might appear is unrecognizable as himself. Scholars believe that whatever logic and physics may apply to the gods is different in the realm of dreams, and that while he may not be the "master" of dreams, he may be inextricably intertwined with them. Apotheosis, they say, is a strange process, and his godhood may very well be tied to the existence of dreams themselves, even if his existence had nothing to do with them in the beginning.
