Anatolí

Anatolí is a waypoint for sailors traveling between the northern and southern continents, settled pleasantly in the warm tropics.

The Immortal Queen

While in the east and west, it's easy to touch the other continents, its more difficult for Ailoséne and Calida to make contact with Dalthraine and Celschön. For centuries, travelers who tried to use Anatolí as a midway were lost when they tried to make port on the island. The island was eventually found to be inhabited mostly by dragons, some of whom resided deep in caves, far in jungles, or underwater, and kept to their own. Others made prey of the sailors who wanted to use the lush island to rest and forage. When they discovered this, Ailoséne sent a guarded envoy to establish a colony. The trained soldiers proved not to be enough. Legends vary, but all agree that in a desperate attempt to save her crew and the settlers she'd been trusted to protect, Captain Mirova parlayed with forces beyond her reckoning, whether it was a god, a dragon, or perhaps a kraken. Nobody knows now exactly what happened, but the colony survived, Captain Mirova became Queen Mirova, and she rules Anatolí to this day. If there have been any significant threats to her power in the many centuries she's ruled, they've been hushed. By all accounts, she's led the small nation to prosperity and defended it well.

Island Rose

Anatolí has only one city, by the same name, on the east coast of the island. While there's plenty of viable land and resources still left, it's purposely left wild for the dragons who inhabit the jungles and volcanoes further inland. It's well-known that Anatolí has a dense population of dragons, but the average sailor will never see one. The ones that haven't been killed in defense of the city keep hidden, and the locals aren't foolish enough to risk encroaching on their territory. As it is, the residents of Anatolí, draconic and humanoid, live in relative peace by leaving each other alone. Although, when the city is threatened, it isn't unheard of for a dragon to assist in the destruction of enemy fleets. It's unknown if these instances are of their own volition or the results of political bargains by the higher eschelons.

Languages. Common

Government. Anatolí is ruled by Queen Mirova, and nobody knows who will succeed her should she ever die.

Demographics. The city is filled with people who have immigrated seeking part of the merchant wealth, people who work for other grand companies in exportation, and residents whose families have lived on the island as long as people have been there. Some trace their lineages back to one country or another, but most are content to call Anatolí their mother country.

Military and Defense. Anatolí commands a strong naval presence which is mostly used to guard the port. Its soldier base are city guards. Contrary to rumor, there are no dragons enlisted in Anatolí's army.

Economy. The wealth in the city is based around trade, commerce, and exportation. Everything can be found in Anatolí because everything is being moved through Anatolí, and as the city has grown, businesses have grown in their own right beyond simply the satelites that trading companies held within the city, although there are still plenty of warehouses and stores owned by international figures. The city itself exports some of its tropical resources, but most of the wild goods are left untouched for the island's draconic residents.
