Rasi
The smell of salt was in the air, I had been reminded of that a little before he saw the city come into view. It always puts me at ease, knowing the long journey was almost over. The birds screeched when the ship landed and docked at the gently swaying water. I could hear screams and shouts coming from all directions and saw colorful buildings and banners come into view. Finally, I am home.
Rasi is the biggest city on the southern coast of Kaigan. This bustling trading port is known for it's colorful architecture and exotic market.
Architecture
With no walls and only the coastline as a close natural boundary, Rasi had a lot of room to expand the city instead of being forced to build higher. This doesn't mean that there are no towers within Rasi, but most buildings don't exceed three stories. The streets tend to be wide and Rasi has a lot of squares and markets, giving the city quite an open feel that allows the cooler ocean air to pass through easily. Roofs are low and the walls are covered in light colored plaster to combat the summer heat. The colors of the walls range across the spectrum, but tend to stay pastel, often houses have colorful flags hanging from their facade and multicolored banners span the streets giving the city a unique colorful feel.
Demographic
Being a port city, the population of Rasi is a mix of all kinds of different ancestries. There is no one ancestry that is visibly more prominent than the others, but while uncommon ancestries are present and relatively quite abundant, they are still in minority compared to common ancestries.
Most citizens are native to the area, born from families in Rasi itself or from one of the villages close by, followed by people from other areas of Kaigan who wanted to live in a warmer place, whilst people from across the seas are less common.
There is quite an income inequality within Rasi. Generally speaking how further from the sea, how poorer the area. Most trade happens near the docks on one of the many markets at that side of the city as trade often comes from sea. Beneath nobles, merchants, traders and big sailing company are the richest, whilst crafting and manual labor can be seen as a poor mans job. The biggest exception to this the art of making jewelry and jewelers are one of the few crafting professions that are not counted as poor.
Export & trade
Sea trade is the most important way for Rasi to make income with both the import and export of products via sea. Trade often happens between different traders to result in further distribution of the goods to the rest of Kaigan. It isn't uncommon for traders who travel through Kaigan to have specific contracts with ship captains to ensure materials and profit.
Fishing
The fish market is one of the busiest places in Rasi, held every day around six in the evening when all the fishing vessels have returned. There they sell the daily catch and some other sea delicacies. One of these delicacies is abalone, or more commonly known as sea snail, which are sold already prepped and ready to eat.
Raw materials
While crafting is not really prevalent in Rasi, the trade in raw materials is high. This involves mainly exotic materials like different types of wood that don't grow in Kaigan. Beside wood, raw textiles like silk and cotton are also brought in by ship to be transported to the main land.
Jewelry
With a high influx of exotic and precious materials there are many creators who use these materials to make high end jewelry that is often exported again to various places. One of the materials that is often used for these jewelry pieces is the shell of abalone as it's known for it's vary colorful and shiny interior.
Spices
The last major trade is foreign spices. Since spices can be stored for long periods of time, they are quite easy to transport, making it an easy trade. Especially richer people around Kaigan enjoy more spicy food, but it also does well in various inns and taverns if they want to provide an experience that is considered higher class.

I love the idea of all the flags and banners - the quote really shows how wonderful they would be to see on the way home from sea. I love the description of the fish market too. :D
Thank you for the comment! I always really appreciate them :)
