We Brought the Hound To Heel

A well known and highly offensive drinking song common in the southern lands, and making reference to the "pacifying" of Genlith following the Council of Mount Kell   Each stanza describes some misdeed of a misbehaving and badly trained hound, ending with the refrain "We brought the hound to heel, my boys, we brought the hound to heel" reminding the hearers that the brave men of the south tamed the beast that ran amok
It is common to make the events described allude to some historical or legendary deed or figure, usually with satirical intent, for example these stanzas which also mock the people of Orloi
And in the Orloi lands he ran, and barking all around
He frighted all the timid men, no warriors he found
Just skinny boys and scholars there, all muttering their charms
For in the Orloi lands, my boys, 'tis scandal to bear arms
We brought the hound to heel, my boys,
We brought the hound to heel!
Many variations exist and have been added to and subtracted from over the centuries since it was first sung. What has remained constant however is that men of Genlith take the singing of it in their presence to be a deliberate insult and tend to react predictably.
