Teyorm Songmaker

The story of Teyorm Songmaker is one of the oldest in the land. According to legend he was born in the first century after the foundation of Caervil and was a humble commoner of that land.
From his childhood he was remarkable in that he vowed never to tell an untruth in his life, and never did. This he said later gave him the gift of being able to compose true poems and songs that stirred the hearts of all who heard them.

When he was thirty-three years old he was sitting on a bank of land overlooking the southern sea when he was approached by a woman on horseback who introduced herself as one of the Elves. She had heard his songs, she said, and knew his heart, and offered him the chance to learn more songs and tales than he could ever imagine if he agreed to serve her for seven years.

Teyorm agreed and she took him with her with him:

Strange ways they rode as dark as night, with but her song to guide their way,
Her words themselves were shining light, Her song was there the only day,
Until at length a path he saw, A path so strange and winding there,
So distant from that far home shore, So terrible and yet so fair

He did not return for seven years but when he did he was unchanged and unaged and his songs were now imbued with greater power and clarity than before. He wrote many poems and songs of prophesy and speaking of strange things.

Teyorm was hale and hearty until his death, having aged much more slowly than any other mortal man and said that he did not fear death "as he has seen a land more fair than this one that awaits him yet"       Note It is possible that Teyorm's travels took him further afield than the land of the elves as his story bears considerable similarity to that of 'Thomas the Rhymer' a folk tale of medieval Scotland
