Refusing her father's attempts to arrange a diplomatic marriage with a man from House Greendale in 838, Arhilda instead took to solitary prayer and study, much to the dismay of her warlike father. In 840 she abandoned The Low Keep to follow an apprenticeship in the ways of The Whisper at the tutelage of the enigmatic Shadran of the Swamps and did not return to her family until 848, wild and strange in her ways and having decided that she would marry one of the lords of House Flint. This was agreed to and Arhilda moved in with her new husband in Gornhym
