Creating a Character in Jushara

Welcome to the Jushara WorldAnvil page!

Step by Step Guide: How to roll a character

This page is the starting point for creating a character in the world of Jushara, as there are divergences between core 5th Edition dungeons and dragons and Jushara. Most things remain the same, but there are some differences. Many of these custom options have been worked around or created on D&D beyond, so feel free to ask!
We recommend using D&D Beyond for character creation. You can login on THIS PAGE by either using a Gmail, Twitch, AppleID or creating a D&D Beyond Account. This is all free.

After signing up for D&D Beyond please go to THIS SITE for access to the Jushara campaign.

D&D Beyond settings

Below is what is turned on, what is turned off, what is optional and what is not.

SPECIAL NOTE: Anything from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything needs to be approved by Hopper.

Step 1: Culture

Characters in Jushara are given an additional beneficial trait ; Culture. Species defines a large chunk of what you are, but culture and ethnicity sculpt a lot of Who you are.

Culture is an additional axis, compared to vanilla 5th Edition. In a world where nations are not typically isolated enclaves of a single species, there are often many different ethnic groups and species making up a single culture. Cultures confer additional benefits, stacked on top of your core traits. It's advisable to choose this early on, as it provides inspiration and flavor to you as you mold your character from raw imagination. Also, it allows you to maximize the benefits by not "doubledipping" on bonuses.

At this time, almost all gameplay in the Sundered Realms is focused on the Continent of Thrask. The Cultures here are primarily drawn from this continent. This is a complete list of what has been created, but not the upper limits, many smaller regions, areas and nooks and crannies remain to be catalogued, so if there is something a player wants to play or see that better fits their vision, Hopper will do his best to work with you to build that together. The summaries of the cultures include the primary demographics as well as any restrictions. These demographics are guidelines, and most PCs can be from anywhere.
Where can you find the cultures of Jushara?

So glad you asked! Below is a list of cultures in Jushara. Each will give you extra bonuses for your character. Select one in your "race" choice on D&D Beyond.

All of these cultures are selectable inside the Jushara "races" in the D&D selection screen. This leads us to the next step.

Step 2: Species

Jushara has its own story, its own history and its own peoples. Some species are available for Player Characters, others are not playable. Here's a list of playable species, sorted by how "Rare" ie; how demographically common these species are.

Some species may be added later, but at this time this is what's available to play.

. • Spring Elve
. • Autumn Elve
Half-Elve

Step 3: Ability Scores

As mentioned above, please use either "point buy" or "standard array" for your ability scores.

Step 4: Background

Choose a background, in addition to the standard 5e backgrounds available from the core books, there are also Additional Backgrounds available in the Jushara World for you to choose.

“I want a custom background - how do i do that?”

If none of the Backgrounds fit the character you're looking to play, talk to Hopper, they can help you figure out what will suit you best, or come up with something more tailored to your character.

Step 5: Kyneslund Characters

If your character is being made for the Kyneslund Westmarches style campaign, choose a free feat, other than "Lucky". Level your character to level 2, all Kyneslund characters start at level 2.

Step 6: How to get that shiny new character in a Game

After you've made a character and you're ready to join the campaign there are simple steps to start adventuring.
1 - Find a group in the discord, or on your own.
2 - Check the calendar for availability
3 - Confirm with Hopper
4 - Schedule with Hopper or Bill
5 - Decide what you want to do
6 - Use the job posting board found on Discord or simply come up with something on your own
7 - Inform Hopper so they can plan

Discord is optional, but highly encouraged, some things in the world can only be put together or discovered by talking to other players.....
