During the early time of the Age of High Magic a group of Wizards known as the Order of the Burning Eye Created magical portals that could be used to travel from place to place. The Magic behind the inner workings of the Portals was only known to the highest in the order, and it is rumored to be forbidden magic used in The Time Before . During the years leading up to the The Great War these portals could be found in most every city and major landmark on the globe, and people could use these portals on a schedule to travel from place to place. A city that had a portal would pay a stipen to the Order of the Burning Eye to be on the schedule, a larger payment granted a better schedule for your city, and a better schedule meant more commerce for the city.
Many rumors about the portals and the Order of the Burning Eye abound all over the realms of Jord. One rumor is that the Order of the Burning Eye was in league with an evil entity and that the elder members worshiped the entity. Others included That the Portals could be used to travel to other Worlds and Planes of existence.

During the early part of The Great War Most of these portals were destroyed by the Mana Eater , and the Elder Members of the Order of the Burning Eye were hunted down and killed by the Knights of Illuria , thus ending the Portals.
