The Kingdom of Thenniden

The Kingdom is rather well known for its isolationist nature as well as its distrust for outsiders. There is even an old joke about how the Errant Queen only ever joined the rebellion so she could be left alone afterward. Of course, back then the Kingdom wasn't the Kingdom it is today. The land which it now holds was once many different petty kingdoms, which is still reflected in the different cultures that can be found in its different parts. That was until the days of King Edmund Calder, a descendant of the Errant Queen, who famously brought together the many petty kingdoms through sword and diplomacy alike.   The Kingdom has since then been held together by them disliking their neighbors more than each other, which might have something to do with their borders being defined by the largest river on Joia and a mountain chain making isolation much easier, though there has been one other thing which significantly shaped the Kingdom. This would be the fact that almost 40% of the population are at this point tieflings, the highest amount found anywhere. Though they have almost always existed in some capacity, there began to be a greater and greater amount around 650 AEF, and it is commonly believed this is due to the truly enormous amounts of devils and demons that the Most Triumphant Emperor unleashed on lands that would become the Kingdom. They were ostracized to start, and people tried to simply ignore them but they became more accepted when three generations of the Kings and Queens of then Faymouth were all tieflings. This acceptance spread when the Calder's united the Kingdoms though some parts remain distrustful of them.   Having a large amount of grassland and plains, there is more the Kingdom is known for, specifically its horse. The Kingdom loves its horses, possibly best represented by the many knight orders that can be found around the Kingdom. These knights are also considered the best cavalry on the continent and have regularly been the thing holding back the enemies of the Kingdom.   With the invention of new technologies, the Kingdom has been surprisingly quick to change with the times. As they have long relied on farming the substation their large population, they have taken in many new mass-produced magic items that can help with this endeavor as well as many others such as simple everyday living. Nothing goes without consequences, however, and there have been some that sat that the pollution from the factories producing these items might have some extreme effects on the environment at large.

Structure

At the top sits the King or Queen of Thenniden as a whole. Under them are dukes and duchesses who rule the cities which were once kingdoms in and of themselves. Ruling smaller cities again can be found earls and barons ruling.

Culture

There are many different cultures within the Kingdom most of which come from the fact that it was originally many petty kingdoms brought together. They can however be generally segmented into different parts. The western provinces of Adin, Launbeck, and Darton are the most isolationist and distrustful of outsiders and are generally seen as somewhat grumpy by the rest of the Kingdom. The Southern Provinces of Holmond and Albridge, also known as the mountain folk, are silent, stoic, and quite good warriors. They are however seen as somewhat dimwitted by the rest of the Kingdom. The Northern provinces of Faymouth and Ormsford are arguably the most accepting of outsiders and are generally known for their excessiveness and gaudiness. Lastly are the eastern provinces of Malton and Kharb. These are the most aggressive, with the Dukes of Malton having tried to rebel multiple times, and they are the only ones frequently talking of actually expanding the Kingdom. They are known to be rather hotheaded.

Public Agenda

The Kingdom general agenda is protecting their border as well as peace across the realm.

History

The story of the Kingdom started with a single Woman. Elanor Calder, also known as the Errant Queen, led the rebellion against the Most Triumphant Emperor after his invasion and slaughter of her homeland, eventually killing the man in single combat. Riding on the sheer goodwill and might, her home of Faymouth grew prosperous and eventually saw how the world was becoming a lot smaller. Fearing that others would do it first, and perhaps seeing some opportunity, King Edmund Calder conquered the other petty kingdoms west of the Medden and south of the Whitecaps. This was naturally not without resistance, the Dukes of Malton famously having tried to rebel half a dozen times, but the Kingdom has held under the Calder's reign nonetheless.   For the last sixty years, the kingdom has seen great growth under the Old King Edmund the Inkhand, so-called for his love for writing. The Kingdom has seen little conflict, the rise of factories producing magic and mundane items alike has blossomed and the Old King managed to get his plan to limit the power of powerful individuals, commonly referred to as adventures, through the Grand Council and the Three Brothers.
