Yulin

玉林

Deep and vast, the canopy of branches and leaves a roof, the Yulin is considered one of the most beautiful places in the Jiangshan and is widely admired by poets. It is dense with vegetation and fauna and several young men have entered in search for the xiannu who must surely reside there.

Geography

The Yulin is an ancient, dense forest spread across several thousand li. There are numerous species of tree throughout, the banyan at its heart counting amongst some of the most impressive. It comprises of rolling hills and a shallow valley that make for easy travel for both humans and animals. Several rivers and tributaries can be found within its vast sprawl but most well known of them all is the Huanghe.

Fauna & Flora

The Yulin is a lush forest with much wildlife to boast of. In its rivers and tribuaries are fish and where the water runs slow and shallow are the turtles for which it has become famed.

Natural Resources

The best valuable resource of the Yulin is surprisingly not its wood, though it is lauded by craftsmen, but its turtles. The most long-lived of all turtle species a city was founded to breed these turtles for the longevity soup of the emperor. Though this species is protected for the consumption of the emperor alone turtle soup is considered a delicacy of the region and is exported to all regions of the Jiangshan.   There is little logging permitted but those who are able make much profit from selling the wood to the local artisans. A minority ethnic group have called the Yulin home for millennia and work best with the wood to create furnishings and wood block prints. They are often contracted and then the pieces are sold on to nobility and the most successful of merchants.
