Scribe Wren

One of the finest tinkerer collectives in Sren's Port--colloquially known as "Seventeen's" because of the large numbers (Gnoman numerals) chiseled above the door--responded to a need they saw in the city by inventing one of the smallest and most intricate constructs in recent history. One of the greatest barriers to schooling for those who are visually challenged or posess other communication or fine motor disabilities, is writing. Currently available writing impliments are difficult or impossible for some individuals to use, so the tinkerers at Seventeen's create what they call Scribe Wrens, and continue to manufacture and sell them at far below cost to those who might need them.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Part intricate automaton and part magical construct, the Scribe Wren is just as delicate and animated as the living bird that it is named after. There is an internal battery of magical energy that can be easily charged by nearly anyone with some kind of magical aptitude, though leaving the little machine in the sun when not in use will give it some charge in a pinch. The little "tail" that looks like a wren's indentifying up-and-down tail is its ink cartridge, refillable with miniature funnel that is included with each purpose.   In most cases, the Scribe Wren is controled via speech--awakened with a command word and then a message dictated for it to write down on the paper or parchment than has been presented for it. When the intended user has difficulties with speech, more clever solutions are imployed to be able to get the message from the user to the construct. These solutions usually require far more time and magical effort to create, but the Seventeen's tinkerers are known to relish a challenge.   As the message is dictated or otherwise passed to the wren, it proceeds to hop neatly along the page, scratching neat letters onto the surface with an automatically ink-loaded beak.
