Weapon Corporations

War is a constant on Jeslore, so it comes as no surprise that governments throughout the realm have relegated the production of ammunition, weaponry, war vehicles, and anything else related to military action to specific corporations. Of all the industry sectors in Jeslore, the defense industry is definitely one of the most powerful. Many defense companies have branched out into things like toy manufacture, entertainment, and more to white wash their image and prime the population for dealings with them.   Among mercenaries, soldiers, bounty hunters, and in general just anyone in need of a gun the defense industry mega titans are known by name. Each weapons manufacturer has their own style, and users know what to expect from each company. For example operators who prefer lasers, plasma or magic use Banisher, whereas heavies prefer Dozer industries' offerings.   Everyone that needs a weapon can go to one of the trillions of weapon vending machines that sell either generic weapons made by the 8 foundries of Jeslore. While some of the companies have an obvious bias to a certain faction, business is business and they have no qualms selling weapons to the enemy. And there isn't a damn thing governments can do about it. Vending machines usually sell generic weapons that aren't anything special, but on rare occassions vending machines will have their featured weapons from the featured* catalogues of one of the factories available. These weapons are usually either made for the military and only available to the public sales, limited edition, or something to that effect.   There are some words that need understanding before defense companies are read about:
  • Weight classes - The weight classes of weapons are related to their weight, size and recoil. Super light, light, standard, heavy, megaton, and gigaton are the 6 weight classes available to Jeslorian weapons. Super light weapons are weapons like tasers that require little training. Standard refers to your average assault rifle. Megaton is a weapon class that can only be used in power armour, whereas gigaton can only be used inside heavy and superheavy power armour or heavy exo suits. Both Megatons and Gigatons can also be carried and then set up as turrets.
  • Handling - The handling of a weapon refers to the amount of hands needed to use one. Two handed weapons incur severe accuracy penalties when fired with one hand and are often far too heavy for it. Hand and a half weapons include things like revolvers, sawn off shotguns, and things of that nature which are useable with one hand but still best used with both hands for maximum accuracy. One handed weapons are easy to fire and don't incur any penalties when fired with one hand.
There's also an abundance of weapon types:
  • Handguns - Compact firearms with respectable power, range, and firerate but not the best mag sizes. No one should travel in Jeslore without one.
  • Revolvers - Small firearms about the same size of handguns capable of hitting harder. They are also relatively fast but have greater recoil and smaller magazine sizes, usually between 5 and 8.
  • Sub-Machine guns - Weapons that are larger, more accurate, and usually fire faster than handguns. They are also a bit larger and have greater ammo capacity, while still firing the same ammo.
  • Personal Defense Weapons - PDWs are essentially SMGs that are able to load rifle ammo. All the positives of SMG with the power of an assault rifle.
  • Scout Rifles - Scout rifles are similar to sniper rifle, but typically semi automatic or in burst fire and don't have the same range. They are more useful for hunting, and also a lot cheaper.
  • Shotguns - Firearms that fire off a cloud of lead, extremely powerful and reliable. A must have for frequent flyers.
  • Assault Rifles - Reliable weapons with magazines up to 35 rounds. Accurate, powerful, good firerate, assault rifles are the preferred choice for any self respecting mercenary.
  • Pulse Rifles - While functionally indistinguishable from assault rifles, pulse rifles are different in that they tend to have multiple barrels and firing chambers unconnected to one another and tend to rely on more unconventional feeding mechanisms. As a result they usually have a higher rate of fire but lower accuracy while also having magazines greater than 35 rounds.
  • Sniper Rifles - Powerful rifles that fire powerful single shots and usually kill whatever they hit. For long range confrontation, there isn't a better choice bar artillery.
  • Launchers - Weapons that launch projectiles such as rockets, grenades, and other things. Usually very powerful and accurate.
  • Light Machine Guns - LMGs used to be the portable variant of machine guns mounted on vehicles, but with advances of weapon technology modern LMGs handle like assault rifles with magazines larger than 35 rounds.
  • Mitrailleurs - Large machine guns such as miniguns and emplacements that require strong arms to use. All mitrailleurs are capable of being mounted onto pods to allow more average persons to use it.
  • Melee - Non ranged weapons that can be thrown.
  • Cannons - Cannons are large weapons that fire a single powerful shot.
  • Hosedown Weapons - Weapons that rely on chemicals or fluid, such as flamethrowers or acid weapons. Also included in hosedown weapons are electric coils and other weapon that deals incremental weapon based on how long a target is hit.
  • Carbines - Powerful rifles that boast extreme damage. Carbines are essentially to assault rifles what revolvers are to handguns: Far more powerful, slower, and smaller magazines. In this category is the Knightbreaker. Carbines are usually on par with sniper rifles in terms of power but have lower accuracy and range. They are almost always either bolt action, pump action, lever action, double action, or semi automatic. In essence, carbines are sniper rifles converted for mid range to close combat while still maintaining the option of hitting targets over a distance.
Information relating to damage types can be found here.   While none of the defense giants qualify for largest corporation on Jeslore, combined the defense industry makes the most money per year. Most weapons are sold throughout the galaxy, generally purchased from vending machines.

Banisher

Banisher is the lead energy weapons manufacturer, specializing in energy, magical, and elemental damage typing on their weapons. Their weapons are seemingly composed of unconnected parts held together by a magical force, when in reality these are anti gravity fields which are sturdiers. With an intimidating name like Banisher, it is no surprise that the weapons produced by this company are incredibly powerful, and priced "accordingly". The weapons themselves are composed mostly out of black, metal plated pyramids held to together by a glowing green forcefield and from a distance they downright look like the product of black magic (as some of them are). The main drawback of weapons made by banisher relate to the fact they are hard to maintain and jam frequently when not in perfect condition. Banisher weapons all follow a naming scheme related to magic.

Bylian Arms Company

The Bylian Arms Company is responsible for the design and manufacture of over 70% of all ammunition across Jeslore. BAC is a dwarven corporation that prides itself in making weapons that are both reliable and powerful. Their weapons can usually be identified by some amount of wood worked into the body of the rifle as well as an unimpressive fire rate compared to offerings of other companies. BAC weapons are also noted for their extreme reliability, rarely ever jamming and when they do it's incredibly easy to clear. Lastly, offerings by the Bylian Arms Company are incredibly accurate and tend to have better than usual range. generally speaking BAC weapons are perfectly dependable, but don't have outstanding qualities like lasers, plasma, or elemental side effects or any notable gimmicks. BAC weapon names are incredibly random, this is because the company has an employee in service whose job it is to come up with "cool" names.

Feline Tactical Gear

Feline's slogan is "Soldier's Choice", in reference to the fact that most fairly standard weapons as well as some specialist weapons in use by the military were made by them. From the mighty FC-37 to the modest AS-23, all of Felin's weapons are defined by their recognizable black and blue coloration. Feline weapons have their main strengths in their versatility, customizability and higher than average firerate, and excellent recoil control. Their weapon naming scheme is also chosen with soldiers in mind, examplex being FC-37, MG-3288, and HP-4 being acronyms of the weapon type (Flak Cannon, Machine Gun, and Heavy Pistol respectively) making them easy to recognize on the screen of the vedning machines they are sold out of. Feline is also not very good at marketing, relying on good well and the sheer desirability of their weapons to stay in business.

Wetwork Engineering

A pirate owned company directly partisan to the Drosden Fleet and its allies. While it can not control (and willingly benefits) from over the counter sales, scalping, and collaboration with companies that are less principled, Wetwork engineering refuses to ship weapons to territories not under control of the tri-faction alliance (DECTA, the council, and the fleet). The weapons made by Wetwork are noted for a sleek if slightly blocky aesthetic with protected vents and sandy purple and yellow highlights typically across the barrels of the weapon. Wetwork weapons are not only extremely advanced, boasting a standard ofechnology even Instinct, Chimera and Banisher regularly fail to meet, they also always come with silencers and are both water and space proof. The two things consistent with Wetwork weapons though is that they are almost always silenced and always work under water and in space. The reason a pirate owned company has such a technological advantage over others is explained by the fact that the CEO is Dexter Diasun, one of the most intelligent individuals alive. Wetwork has a very similar naming scheme to Feline, having an putting an acronym of the weapon type behind a randomly chosen though usually vaguely relevant amphibious or lizard. Examples include: Komodo-wx7, Python-as7, and Salamander-pc8 (Weapon X, Assault Suit, and Pocket Cannon respectively).

Instinct Technologies

Instinct was founded originally as a company to help design on-board flight radars, but quickly found themselves making generic weapons for the war effort during operation sunrise, but as they had their own freedom on the line (Instinct Technologies at the time was made up mostly of elven refugees) they implemented some of their expertise into the weapons. Instinct weapons very quickly earned a reputation for themselves, as these weapons almost always had advanced computer technology worked into some component of the gun, automating some features or detecting enemy presence over various races. Insintc weapons can be identified by their generally elegant appearance with overall blocky bodies as well as a distinct sandy beige colour combined with black. Instinct weapons have names made up of 2 words such as starduster and fusiondriver, and so on.

Dozer Industries

Dozer industries is a very profane, no nonsense company founded by a Seraph, a Bylian dwarf, and a veer orc, brothers by agreement and friends forged in battle. Dozer industries designs weapons, it's what they do and do well and to pretend to do anything else not only goes against their branding but also wastes time and resources. Out of all the corporations across Jeslore, Dozer weapons are the most easily recognizable. Their standard weapons tend to look unfinished, almost like welding gear with cannisters (although armoured ones) exposed in a rebar frame with bright yellow handle bars and barrels sticking out. What little walls the weapons have usually have yellow/black hazard stripes on them as an indicator of where fingers should not go. The higher tier weapons look like construction machinery like excavators and bulldozers (hence the name). Dozer specializes in making weapons that are simply heavy and deal way more power than they need to. Dozer weapons have short names, typically named after some sort of large herbivorous mammal like the bull or the mastodon.

Isekeo Innovations

Isekeo is a company specializing in the sale and manufacture of weapon that have some sort of innate connection to the user through linking cybernetics with the weapon. They are generally considered a slight upgrade from instinct weapons, but they are also incompatible with cybernetics made by a company other than Isekeo so it remains irritating and expensive to invest in one. Isekeo weapons have a sleek black mono colour look, sometimes with red or lighter grey highlights, and while Isekeo weapons can be used without cybernetics it is sort of pointless as the user is deliberatley handicapping themselves. Isekeo weapons have a warrior themed naming scheme, featuring stuff like the samurai and the ronin.

Chimera Defense

Chimera defence is a company with a notable bias to the empire, but business demands it deals with anyone. Weapons made by Chimera are usually powerful energy weapons that are at the same time incredibly user hostile, requiring linking to the user's bank account and social media for the weapon to work. Chimera weapons are distinct in that there is no manually detachable magazine, all ammo is placed inside automatically by way of teleportation technology, and ammo packs have to be purchased online in advance or fees may be charged. Chimera weapons look extremely distinct, with cool blues and alien purples giving them an intimidating look. Their weapons are named after creatures from imperial lore such as the minotaur and the manticore.

Out of character box.

While I doubt this comes as a surprise to anyone, but my entire world anvil is in character with the exception for comments and some comments here and there. As this is an article closely related to my RP experience on discord, this here box serves to clarify certain things to users looking to make a character. Below are a number of statements more or less important for navigating the character creation.
The company name headers above the short description of the corporation is linked and can be clicked. Doing so will bring you to an article of the company itself, containing a brief description and history of the company and a list of notable weapons.   * Important thing to note: Featured weapons in this world are essentially limited edition weapons the company worked harder either because they collaborated with a competitor (or in the opposite direction tried to compete with them) or the weapons were commissioned by the government for military use. Despite the fact that Jeslore is a bit of a wastehole where companies have immense power, being commissioned by one of the super powers is still considered something of a privilege and also very lucrative. The featured weapons should be thought of as something equivalent to a legendary weapon in an RPG, except there were commercials for it.
