The Iron Legion

"If one ever wondered for a second how the Iron union managed to fight a race that at the time was much more advanced than they were, they need not look further than the Iron Legion. Originally known as the Iron Rebellion before the Union was established, the Iron Legion is essentially the standing army of the Iron Union. For better or worse, they were and still are undeniably fearless." - Galactic Hitchhiker's guide to Jeslorian armed forces.

Structure

The Iron Union follows a traditional military chain of command, with a general at the top and privates (known as ratniks) at the bottom.

Public Agenda

The Iron Legion serves as the military strongarm of the Iron Union. They are deployed whenever the union feels threatened and wants to engage an enemy. They're also tasked with the Iron Union's favorite pastime: Conquering and occupying new territories. Ratniks also maintain order in both the Unions homeland and their occupied territories, secondarily serving as the law enforcement agency of the U.C.R.P. They very publicly state that their agenda is to vanquish enemies of the revolution, and they do it with a level of ferocity not seen in even the zealous Imperial Legion.

Assets

The Iron Union is nothing if not calculating, and to anyone not gullible it is clear that their commitment to science had one unmistakable intention: Pure incontestable military might. Every scientist that has or will ever work for the union knows that every second spent on research was done with the goal of advancing the strength of the Iron Legion. Up until their demise, the Iron Legion always had an impressive technological advantage over its enemies that nearly outweighed their already unnecessarily colossal numbers advantage. For a short rundown, here is a list of advances in military technology that the Union brought about and was subsequently first used by the Iron Legion:
  1. Gunpowder technology.
  2. Chambered bullets.
  3. Lever action, pump action, double action, and bolt action fire arms.
  4. Gas operated weaponry.
  5. Rocket Propelled Explosives.
  6. Shell Artillery.
  7. Automatic firearms.
  8. Power Armor.
  9. Radio Technology.
  10. Night Vision.
  11. Laser modifications.
  12. Silencers & Basic stealth technology.
  13. Radar Technology.
  14. Ballistic armor.
  15. Rocket Artillery.
  16. Defensive anti rocket/anti air technology.
The Iron Legion used to be at the forefront of military technology, and with a government interested only in conquest backing them they spared no expense in equipping their men with the finest weaponry they could build.

History

Before the Majolkkrat communist revolution destroyed the entirety of the monarchist regime, the proletariat needed to unite under one name to bring the oppressors to their knees. They united as the Iron Rebellion, a growing movement made up of disgruntled workers and slaves that sought to take their vengeance, and it was indicative of what the Iron Union would one day look like: Ruthless, Merciless, Scientifically advanced, and violent. They already had a knack for inventing advanced weapons and managed to discover gunpowder technology while they were still fighting the monarchy. Unsurprisingly, with this much fervor and a growing technological advantage, the monarchy and its loyalists were crushed, and the Iron Union was founded.   But they were far from done. Now having their own unique identity based on rejecting traditional values of the monarchy through authoritarianism and seeing other monarchist nations around Jeslore react to their bloodshed with shock, the Iron Union feared that nations sympathetic to their old kings would swoop in and bring them back to the monarchy. They had to make sure that if they were attacked, they could preserve the revolution so their first step was to rapidly industrialize their nation. The industrialization of the Iron Union left them with a problem though: the need to expand. As they expanded throughout the subteranean level of Jeslore they found themselves increasingly at odds with the dwarves who much like them relied on raw ore for their economy. Aside from competing for the same resources, the Majolkkrat had issues with the dwarves and their capitalistic system, and their distaste would only intensify.   With other nations strengthening their own military to keep up with the Iron Union, their demand for ore only increased so they hatched a plan to do more than get their enemies off their backs, they would put themselves directly in control of their enemies. They would conquer all of the underground, effectively creating a monopoly on raw ore which would cripple any military action against them. They had one thorn in their side however: The Dwarves.    The dwarves refused to co-operate with them in the past so the Iron Union gave them an ultimatum: Leave the underground or face the wrath of the Iron Legion that was now equipped with lever action and pump action weaponry whereas the dwarves didn't even have guns yet. They refused, and the Iron Legion was sent in. To call the conflict between the majolkkrat and the dwarves a massacre would be an understatement; the dwarves were driven out of the underground in under 5 years and the union conquered the rest of the unclaimed subterranean areas over the span of 20 years afterwards. By the time their conquest was complete and they could fully commit to the ways of extracting resources for production, the Iron Legion had already made several breakthroughs in military technologies and the nations that originally wanted to gear up against them rapidly changed their mind after how badly they beat the dwarves.   The Union, through the might of the Iron Legion had reached the peak of their power and they wouldn't let go of any of it for a few thousand years.

Disbandment

After having enjoyed several thousands of years of indirectly calling the shots, their influence was rendered utterly useless when one of their adversaries went to space and their authoritarian handlings came back to bite them. Suddenly people no longer relied on the Iron Union for raw ore and were free to hold them accountable for their warcrimes. The net was beginning to close when they found out that a rebellion in one of their territories was funded by the Dracholmian Union, kicking off a war between the two. The issue was that after so many years of dominance, the Iron Union had no allies willing to fight by their side, and the Iron Legion was being pushed back on all fronts by enemies that through trading with other galactic factions had turned the technological tables on the legion. The war dragged on for years, and the legion literally ran out of men to fight before they surrendered. The last Iron Legionnaire was a 14-year-old boy that was shot on the stairs of the Union's parliament building. To solidify how emotionally attached the Majolkkrat were to the Iron Union, this particular 14-year-old soldier refused to surrender, instead pulling the pin out of his grenade to take as many soldiers with him before he could be arrested.   The Iron Legion was dissolved by force, as without soldiers they couldn't resist their enemies any more. But they kept coming back, even after the most brutal defeat at the hands of an alliance of factions. It was their resistance that broke the alliance, and with their ideology alive and well, the Iron Union could recover.
