The Imperium

"Long considered the arch-enemy of not just the dracholmian union but also liberty and dignity itself. The empire is defined by its fanatic loyalty to the vanguard Kragen, even after his death. While throughout Jeslore religion serves as a crutch to help people cope with misery, the empire uses its faith to justify the most horrifying atrocities recorded in Jeslorian history not to outsiders but to themselves." - Hitchhiker's guide to Jeslorian history

Basic structure, history and philosophy

The Dusk Elven empire loosely represents the dusk elven race, but more strongly its religious dogmas.   Imperial purges of the political rivals and loose cannons within its new army

Structure

The Dusk Elven Empire is one of the very first elven empires, predating the sun elven kingdom, the linnessian kingdom, the giant tribes of ragnarock, and potentially even the dwarven presidential states and even the moon elves. Unfortunately, they were shaped by immense loyalty for their god, a god that demanded strict customs and unwavering loyalty in exchange for salvation. Religion is strongly integrated into the ruling of the empire. Obviously, the emperor has to be a devoted follower of Kragen but they also must embody masculine perfection for the dusk elves (meaning strong jawline, long smooth hair, and bright red eyes). The emperor makes most of the decisions within the empire although some of them have been known to outsource the work to their advisors while living up in the luxury.   Directly below the holy emperor and his advisor is the Primus Imperator, essentially the general of the army. To reduce stress for the holy emperor, the primus imperator handles affairs for the Legions of the dusk elven empire. Although the primus imperator is not generally meant to handle affairs for civilians, they have been known to try and take control of the slave population for either cheap troops or relaxation for the men of the army.   Lastly, the clergy of the church of Kragen is the last ones noted to have power instead of just influence. They are colloquially known as the Tenebris Inquisitorea and were originally put in place to make sure the citizens of the empire are following the only true religion, but over time it just generally turned into secret police of sorts (essentially a religious version of the Schutzstaffel) that now also kept a close eye on spy activity, kept captive slaves in line, captured escapees and oversaw the brutalities of the empire. They would also levy fake charges and fabricate propaganda to smear and create grounds for the arrest of those they disliked and wanted gone.   Below the clergy are the nobility, which has no direct influence and can easily fall foul of the Tenebris Inquisitorea. They are simply considered citizens with more expendable capital gains. They are slightly above the average citizens, anything from the working class to soldiers.   At the bottom of the hierarchy are obviously slaves. Conquered races and prisoners of war that are at the mercy of their owners. Their contribution to the empire has varied greatly over the years. They are always looked down on and seen as expendable resources. The high death rate and sickening torture methods used against them was the moral justification for war against the empire.

Culture

The dusk elven culture is defined by intense cynicism and an acceptance of sorts that they must persevere within the darkness of their own land and hope that Kragen will grant them the strength to persevere through darkness and tribulations. Every aspect of their culture and civilization is related to their religion. They're also known for their very gothic architecture. After the war, their grand cathedrals attracted tourists from all over Jeslore. A lot of the imperial cities attract war cities from all over the world, the dracholmian union has even converted many of the slave and concentration camps into musea that serve as a grim reminder of the horrors of war. Imperial battle forts have also been converted into military musea. The former palace of the holy empress too has been converted into a glorified photo-op that ever since the empress was dragged out has always had 2 death angels guarding the palace gate.    Despite occupation and later the very death of their god, former imperial territories remained staunchly religious states and visitors were often welcomed in special churches built for the sake of tourism. Ironically, Imperial territories are also the best place for tourism related to the Dracholmian military as death angels and members of the Charlot division are often still needed here to put down insurgents. There is no place on Jeslore better for witnessing the cheerful march music used in union marches, particularly those used by death angels.   Before it fell, the dusk elven empire was very forum-based, it had huge markets where goods from all over the alliance were sold, including prisoners. Its culture was essentially defined by religion and (approved) philosophy.

Assets

The empire was once of the most well-organized civilizations of Jeslore, having a massive well organized military, fortresses covering the only way an army could approach them, and tons of wealth from their trade with neighboring civilizations. They had a massive supply of horses supplied by the Chev'ronians and weapons crafted by the goblins. War machines were handled by the veer. On top of their defense against foreign threats, their Tenebris Inquisitorea ensured that the imperial citizens obediently followed the religion imposed by the empress and handle anything from escaped captives to ordinary law enforcement.

History

The History of the Dusk Elven Empire splits into 2 parts: The first empire and the second empire.   The First Empire   The first empire was founded far in the distant past. Unfortunately with the razing of many of their cities during the war, their origins were lost. All that is known from oratory historians is that the founding imperial were united by their devotion to Kragen, and it was said that he rewarded them for their devotion and would continue to do so if they could build an empire in his honor. The Dusk Elves hail from the upper northern part of, which is characterized by its very gloomy climate with low light because of the ash from the goblin volcanoes darkening the skies. In the near-constant darkness of the dusk elven lands, the promise of finding salvation in the god of darkness himself seemed like an appealing promise. The church of Kragen was definitely not the first religion as a whole but definitely the first one with this level of devotion and loyalty.   Under the church of Kragen things got much better, but this is mostly because of the church and emperor building better more advanced cities with better housing and protection against bandits. The churches themselves were built in a way that they would reflect light onto the streets, serving as a true beacon of Kragen's will while inside the cathedrals it was heated well while maintaining darkness, which would help in creating a sense of comfort in the ever-present darkness of the dusk elven lands.   Slavery was to become an essential part of the empire, but under the first emperors the application of slavery was far less cruel, some would even say fair. It was essentially a community service sentence forced upon convicted criminals. The cruelty really only began when more unfit emperors were put on the throne and their contempt for slaves opened the door for a steady abuse of those convicted.    Eventually, an era known as the imperial renaissance rolled around. This was an era characterized by what could be called a collective victim complex. The dusk elves had been living in this gloomy, dark, ashy hellscape for years and through Kragen, they persisted. They looked around and saw all other races living carefree lives in the sunlight, some of them even without their god. Some philosophers felt because of their great struggle, they were entitled to expand and colonize other lands and send the original inhabitants back to their own land so they too could find strength in Kragen. One notorious imperial philosopher concluded that struggle breeds greatness, and because the other races never struggled with the darkness they were lesser.   The empire began its expansion. They allied the first few races they met (goblins, veer orcs, and chev'ronian humans) who they recognized also lived in similar darkness and were thought of as worthy allies. It did not take long however for them to run into lesser races and conquer them. Conquered people, civilians, soldiers, and rulers alike were enslaved and put to work as a labor force in their own land. Over the years brutality towards these unwilling workers increased as more incompetent emperors took the throne and exacted their supposed vengeance on innocent civilians. Slaves were not just taken by the empire, the veer orcs and chev'ronians also took them. The Chev'ronians were the most self indulgent when it came to using their slaves, keeping them as personal property for whatever they desired. It ranged from personal assistance, to dancers, and anything in between. Meanwhile the Veer, with a more cynical racial outlook mainly treated their slaves as welcome company and sidekicks. Slaves were generally better off being sold to orcs than to humans.   The brutality reached its peak when the empire reached the sunset isles, home of the sun elves. The sun elves were very different from the dusk elves. They were a cheerful and peaceful civilization that valued life in the sunlight. On top of that, unlike the males of the empire, sun elven males were generally fairly effeminate. They were just as religious generally but allowed for same-gender marriage, women in the small military they did have and were welcoming to foreigners. Perhaps what bothered the dusk elves the most was the fact that sun elves are one of the few non-ageless mortals. They believed that only gods should be able to live forever. The crimes committed against the sun elves by the empire were unspeakable, especially since the sun elves refused to fight back long after they were already enslaved.   Ultimately, the invasion of the sunset elves proved to be their fatal mistake, or rather their obsession with humiliating the last survivor of the sun elven royal bloodline by keeping her enslaved and ultimately planning to sacrifice her to Kragen on her homeland. Sylvia escaped to Dracholm, went on to join the immortals, and inspired major dissent among a civilization the empire had never met before. It's generally accepted that Sylvia reporting on the crimes of the empire inspired the Dracholmian Union to declare war. She ultimately 'died' on a mission unrelated to the empire. But the war went on.   Meanwhile within the empire, as the war went on things changed. The most important thing being the crowning of one of the few holy empresses. Ascenda Aveniscii was born with a sister and a brother. She was the last in line to be put on the throne, but her brother died somewhat comically overseeing a battle and her sister passed away to illness. She was crowned at the peak of the campaign of the war against the dracholmian union and is generally considered the best holder of the throne.   Her defining policy was to shift ownership of slaves away from private use and demand that future captives would be handed to the empire. Under her, slaves would be used as a form of healthcare. She would keep her own population happy and employed by taking the busy work given to slaves and making it a real paid employment. Slaves would fill their position whenever workers fell sick, allowing the empire to maintain a steady level of production while comfortably be able to pay workers on sick leave. This did not mean that cruelty had vanished under Ascenda because whenever slaves did not fill positions of workers, they were locked in small cells and typically starved to death. The ones most useful to the empire would be converted to the church of Kragen, thus corrupting them into renegade elves. Renegade elves were fanatic, possibly more so than dusk elves. Corrupting non-dusk elves to renegade elves was not a new thing, in fact, the empire spent over 20 years trying to corrupt Sylvia and it seems she's the only one immune to corruption. But under Ascenda, the corruption process was viewed as a great honor, a chance for an inferior subhuman to become part of the empire.   Unfortunately for Ascenda, about 2 months after she was crowned and had made the empire a more functional society, in 1788 the drosden fleet formally declared war on the empire. Even worse, 2 years later in 1780, the infamous failed assault on aergique take place. With the drosden fleet in the war, the empire found it extremely difficult to get supplies to their soldiers on the Dracholmian mainland, so with a poorly supplied and exhausted the empire made a move on Aergique, one of the best-defended cities in Dracholm. The assault was a catastrophic failure, the empire lost 1/3 of its army in the assault and then lost another 25.000 in the retreat as the dwarves had begun using tanks and tested them by chasing down the retreating imperial. During this disastrous retreat, the empire also lost its best general: Zindro Akter, who was comically run over by a dwarven tank after injuring his leg. To make things worse, about 60 years or so later the biggest military of Jeslore joined the war too on the side of the Union and it looked as if Imperial defeat now was certain, especially with the eisenzing pact signed that rapidly boosted union technological advancement.   Then finally in 1985, the empire was fully destroyed following the destruction of the Dusk Elven capital city Av'ren'enne. Ascenda was found guilty of war crimes and atrocities of the most heinous sort and was the first to be executed during the Kitzbach trials and hundreds of thousands would follow in the longest legal process of Jeslorian history.   The Second Empire   The dusk elven empire has had many emperors, but very few empresses. They had even fewer empresses that could defeat the systematic prejudice against women holding the throne. And only one Empress was considered better than all her predecessors: Ascenda Aveniscii. One of the 5 individuals to ever attain a wizard status with her proficiency in magic. An empress as loved by her subjects as she was feared by her enemies and who restructured the dusk elven empire into a functional society until they were crushed by the governmental union. But the spirit and loyalty to the throne did not die with her, she remained revered among the dusk elves who were cynical and bitter about their loss of the war, especially when the governmental spat in the face of the imperial spirit by killing their beloved god Kragen without morally justifying it enough to appease the moderate followers of the dark. The governmental union's war against gods also stretched troops thin, forcing them to allow the Iron Union to occupy Imperial territories.   Philosophically, the empire and the iron union could not be further apart. The empire had an emotional, almost sacred attachment to their traditions, religion, and racial identity. The Iron Union believed in no such things, traditions and religions were not simply an obstacle, but a threat towards their endless march for progress. When the governmental union reluctantly handed the Iron Union imperial territory so they could concentrate on destroying the pantheon of gods known as the vanguard, millions of imperial citizens revolted. The iron union not only saw their outcry against the removal of their identity as weak, but they also took it as an insult. They harshly punished anyone speaking out against the removal of imperial churches and cathedrals. The imperial hatred for the governmental union reached its peak in response to two things:   The Iron Union held a monopoly on raw ore. Years before the war, the Iron Union had kicked the dwarves out of the underground and seized total control over any mining export. They knew of the empire's hatred towards them and so chose to back the governmental union, helping them achieve a crushing victory. It did come at a cost for the dracholmian union, however: The Iron Union held total control over any raw ore available, meaning that they could not punish the iron union for their war crimes. Even after the war on gods had ended, they could not force the iron union to give back the imperial territory. The Imperials trusted the governmental union's promise that in exchange for the head of their god, they would see to it that the iron union rescinded control over all imperial territory. Instead, they were left at the mercy of the Iron Union indefinitely.   Millions of imperial citizens fled to Dracholm, hoping to evade the wrath of the iron union that was forcefully implementing its own laws in their former home. But they did not expect that Dracholm was home to the hundreds of millions that were once enslaved, oppressed, and abused by their own fallen regime. The Dracholmian government welcomed them back, but the people did not.   It was their bitterness towards a world that despised them for crimes their ancestors had committed, after already suffering through punishment implemented by the iron union that radicalized thousands to worship Ascenda Aveniscii as the holy empress- the second coming of Kragen who will birth the new empire who shall last a million years.   Many more years passed, but the bitter imperials had their prayers answered when Jayce Vulter revived the immortals in an attempt to weaponize them against both the growing J.E.S (Joint Empire Supremacy) insurgency group but also the rising power of The Lorrian and his leopard seal units. She was stopped by the governmental union who by then had gotten the upper hand over the Iron Union and had begun giving back Imperial territory to a puppet government (who they weren't aware had many imperial loyalists). Jayce Vulter was a cunning woman with a contingency plan because she knew turning the immortals against the dracholmian union was likely to end badly for her, so in addition, she also revived two famous figures from the empire:   Zindro Akter, the former General Centurion of the imperial army, who was as feared by his enemies as by his own men.   And Ascenda Aveniscii. She returned to the throne without any pushback and seceded from the Dracholmian Union's control. She restored the racial identity of the dusk elves, but made a fatal flaw: She also returned to their old ways of slavery and cruelty, immediately making enemies with the Dracholmian Union who now had defeated the Iron Union and had become significantly more powerful.   Ascenda herself went from a cunning empress to a demi-god almost. Her magical proficiency, which had gotten even rarer in modern times, her angelic appearance, and her undying loyalty to the empire saw her revered as a god by her subjects. The empire had found their vessel, they believed that Ascenda truly would give birth to the second coming of their god Kragen and mark the beginning of the million-year empire. The hunt was on to locate ancient artifacts left behind by the vanguard, the most important one being Kragen's key, which was prophesized to open the gates to the next empire. Ascenda is always depicted holding the key over her womb, symbolic of how the key will birth the new empire through her. Ascenda blindly followed along, through her devotion she had not only become a symbol to the empire but a symbol to herself. She now stood for something more than just the throne. She represented imperial beauty, power, and divinity.

Disbandment

The empire fell when the iron union and the Dracholmian union assaulted the city and dragged the holy empress out of her throne and into a court. The empire never officially surrendered until their holy empress was detained. The empire was then put under the control of a rebel puppet government until the 2nd empire.

Military

The army of the Dusk Elven Empire is generally known as the solemn legion or Kragen's Wrath, which was once one of the biggest militaries of Jeslore. Unfortunately due to the religious convictions of the empire, technology was never that advanced within this army as they believed funding the clergy was more important than funding their own technological sector. They relied completely on the Chev'ronian dwarves who didn't fully trust them and thus held back a lot of advanced technology that would enable the solemn legion to take over the goblin cities. On top of that, the goblins also invested technological resources in amenities for their civilians, which further lower the empire's chances in the arms race with the union.

Technological Level

Technology in the empire has always been fairly lackluster and totally reliant on the goblins who, despite being arguably one of the most intelligent races, are not nearly as advanced as the combined technological might of the dwarves, cykx, and iron union. To really put things in perspective, the first empire only ever reached world war 2 levels of technology with fairly primitive power armor for their shadow paladins while they were fighting armies that had near space-age levels of technology.    The Majolkkrat had near information era technology, wielding advanced assault rifles with red dot visors and polyester parts as well as soldiers wearing night-vision goggles. They were being firebombed with technology associated with the Vietnam era, as their sectors were covered in napalm. On top of that, the Majolkkrat had advanced radar systems and could intercept communications sent by the empire.   Meanwhile, the dracholmian union has mostly technology associated with the atomic era, weapons powered by gas comparable to the m16 with the ability to reliably attack from the air using helicopters. Then some divisions of the dracholmian union were armed by the Cykx, effectively amping up their tech level to sci-fi levels. They wielded homemade laser weaponry and had extremely advanced, near impenetrable power armor.   The second empire was much more advanced simply by merit of rising thousands of years later, but since the iron union was gone and the dracholmian union could now manufacture new powerful weapons in mass on other planets, they were not only outgunned but also outnumbered.

Religion

There is but one religion in the empire: The Church of Kragen and the Tenebris Inquisitorea will ruthlessly attack anyone putting their faith in another deity. The Church of Kragen is represented by the aforementioned Tenebris Inquisitorea which is clergy and secret state police at the same time. Religion is the most important aspect of dusk elven society, which is very evident by the sheer amount of funding the Tenebris Inquisitorea receives.

Foreign Relations

  • The Goblin Collective - The goblins are to the empire what the Cykx and dwarves are to the dracholmian union. They are their technological force and arms supplier. Despite this, relations between the dusk elves and the goblins are difficult and ripe with distrust. This mostly stems from the difference in government. Much like the Iron Union, the goblins are a communist collective and they're aware the empire despises the way they run things. They are allied because due to the sheer numbers, the empire could destroy them. But for every gun, sword, or tank the goblins make for the empire, they keep 3 for themselves in case they are betrayed. Even diplomacy is hard, as the goblin envoys respond poorly to the overt cruelty of the empire.
  • The Dracholmian Union - The Dracholmian Union and the empire are sworn enemies. Ever since the Dracholmian Union discovered how cruel the empire was, they have been doing everything in their power to control their spread and destroy their empire.
  • Iron Union - There is a mutual hatred stemming from both moral and governmental grounds. Not only are the iron union communists, but they also neglect their culture and religion. They are, by imperial standards, heretics of the highest degree and must be destroyed. On the other side, the iron union considers the empire a backwater, barbaric civilization and despite the fact that the iron union are some of the worst war criminals, they rightfully denounce the atrocities of the empire.
  • Drosden Fleet - The idea of a self-crowned female ruler taking charge of a powerful navy by besting the previous leader in battle to the empire is a blasphemous concept. On top of that, the degeneracy of employing slaves, seen as inferior, in the army and leading them against the empire is also considered pure heresy. The drosden fleet offers freedom, safety, and a chance to fight back to inferior races that the empire considers not deserving of freedom.
  • The Immortals - While the empire hates everyone standing in their way, they do not tolerate a band of heroes that even by their own standards are far from holy can inspire fear in the hearts of their own troops. On top of that Sylvia is at the top of the Empire's kill list because she is the princess of a race that they tried to exterminate, she evaded the dusk elven legion, she's lesbian which is sinful to Kragen, she's a female combatant cutting down their troops, and the empire views healers as self-defeating and not deserving of life.

Agriculture & Industry

While they do not have very much understanding of technology, the dusk elven empire is a strong industrial power. While factories are kept outside cities as to not pollute Kragen's holy bulwarks, there is little open land in the empire because it's all been filled with heavy industrial factories and power plants. This is where their alliance with goblins comes in: powerful technologies like tanks, helicopters, power armor, and things of that caliber are produced by the goblins themselves as they want to keep a reasonable advantage over the dusk elves in case they betray them. But basic things like ammunition, weapons, and standard armor are manufactured by the dusk elven empire's powerful industrial lands. It is here where dusk elves, veer orcs, chev'ronian humans, and Tsaaskxi (lesser orcs) work together to create what is needed for the imperial war machine.   Formerly, only slaves worked in these factories, usually to death as they were seen as a labor resource and nothing more. It is here that Ascenda cemented herself as the best ruler of the empire, as she removes forced labor and turned it into a job market that nearly eradicated unemployment in the empire. Instead of starved slaves with very little physical strength which contributed little, these factories were now manned by motivated and happy workers. Production skyrocketed and it was under Ascenda that it looked as if the empire had an actual chance of winning the war. Moreover, she could maintain worker satisfaction by passing the Tenebris Dryadalum Imperium Operatus Satisfactio Decretum (Dusk Elven Empire Worker's Satisfaction Decree), which provided workers with unemployment benefits, retirement before 65, and most importantly paid sick leave. Workers that fell sick would have slaves fill their position. Slaves would be muzzled and unlike previous emperors, Ascenda did not have (most of them) starved to maintain production potential. But they were tortured to make sure they were motivated to work, as they were falsely promised freedom if they worked hard enough.   Conversely, their industrial zone also proved to be one of their weaknesses, as they never foresaw that one day units like death angels and Mobil Pantser Kriegnovs would set foot in these sectors. Obviously, these workers were unarmed and while the Dracholmian Union, Drosden fleet, and the Republic of Ancient Races had reservations about killing civilians to stun production, the Iron Union certainly did not. In Dusk Elven culture, especially a lot of their later animated media, being set on fire and melting is a very common horrifying kind of imagery that shocks audiences, but particularly invokes nightmares in dusk elves themselves. This is the fault of the iron union, as they mercilessly firebombed dusk elven factory sectors with ruthless efficiency, reportedly even opening firebombing campaigns with regular bombs to destroy bridges and cover for maximum casualties. Millions died a fiery death due to iron union fire bombing campaigns.

Trade & Transport

The empire was not to trade with those they saw as unworthy, which realistically meant anyone they didn't have as part of their alliance. They built extensive roads within the empire to keep production rates up, these roads were mostly used to transport soldiers, slaves, and workers. To move wares, the empire built train tracks capably of moving large amounts of goods quickly to any destination within the empire.

Education

Education within the dusk elven empire is unsurprisingly very lackluster and riddled with weird religious propaganda and misinformation to ensure a fanatic, indoctrinated younger generation. Obviously, they were given practical information that would help them find work in the industrial sector or just within the empire but education under the empire made sure to really hammer in the importance of serving Kragen and the degeneracy of their enemies. They were also taught to be violent towards the conquered, which amped up captive death rates.

War Crimes

The Crimes and cruelty of the empire were so sickening to rulers and politicians around the realm that the term war crime was practically invented in response to the actions of the empire. But war crimes can be retroactively charged, so even though these laws were passed after the actions of the empire, they were still found guilty. This is an incomplete list of the most notable war crimes committed by the empire.
  • Attempted Genocide - The crime of attempting to eradicate a whole race from the planet. The list of races the empire attempted to exterminate is too long to list, but they were found guilty.
  • Slavery - The crime of forcing prisoners of war to work against their will. This was the most prevalent crime of the empire.
  • Mass Degradation - The crime of grossly abusing prisoners. The empire did this to a sickening degree which is listed as the main reason the term war crime was called into effect.
  • Mass Rape - Millions of prisoners both civilian and military were auctioned off for private use, leading to trauma and suicides all over the realm.
  • Mass murder - The killing of unarmed civilians.
  • Ritual Bestiality - Ritual bestiality was practiced as part of the ritual to corrupt prisoners into renegade elves. Many of these rituals were filmed for the enjoyment of higherups.
  • Abuse of prisoners - According to the Kitzbach convention, prisoners, especially those of war are to be treated respectfully. The empire actively abused its prisoners.
  • Invasion of neutral territories - Self-explanatory, the empire blatantly ignored the wishes of parties that wished to remain neutral.
  • Unlawful arrests - Freedom of thought is an intrinsic right, the deployment of secret police that will arrest people on the grounds of religion or different thought is a war crime.
  • Dispossession - The theft and redistribution of personal property from civilians upon the invasion of their territory.
  • Warmongery - Declaration of war against other countries or faction without a proper casus belli. Holy wars are not a proper casus belli.
  • Violation of the 3rd decree of the Kitzbach convention - The 3rd decree of the kitzbach convention dictates that medical personnel, even those of the enemy, may not be shot under any circumstances. The empire not only ignored this, because of religious convictions they targeted medical personnel.
  • Gross abuse of power - The act of using the power granted by rulership to put down opposition.
  • Conscription - Under the Kitzbach convention, mandatory military service is illegal.
  • Erasure - Temples, churches, or any other sort of cultural or historical property may not be destroyed.
Designated Status: Irredeemably tainted   Status Meaning: The lowest a regime can fall, irredeemably tainted demands governments to preserve the actions of the convicted and even include it in educations. Governments must work hard to ensure a regime can never rise to power again. This status also means that violations and war crimes committed against this regime will either be charged a reduced penalty or fully ignored

Instances of war crimes

The 3 most notable war crimes of the dusk elven empire are:   The Invasion of the Sunset Isles - The Sunset Isles was the home of the peaceful sun elves that didn't even have much of a standing army. Moreover, the first few imperial soldiers were welcomed as visitors. Nevertheless, the sun elves were brutally enslaved and eventually became the primary target of the dusk elven empire's genocidal tendencies. The crimes committed against the sun elves were sickening and single-handedly served as the Dracholmian Union's casus belli.   Imperial Slavery - The type of slavery practiced by the empire was well documented to be much crueler than was necessary to retain control over prisoners. Moreover, slaves were sold of for personal use all over the empire which paved the way for the unspeakable atrocities committed by anyone, from soldier to civilian. The documentation of what the empire did to slaves, who most commonly were innocent civilian men, women, and children that were dragged out of their homes, sparked immense outrage all over Jeslore which lead to the public and even some military commanders calling for the complete and utter annihilation of the empire and the razing of their cities. The Kitzbach trials which lasted several years aimed to punish anyone who participated in this slavery as well as reward those who risked their lives helping them escape or rebelled against the empress. It was the existence of rebellions that eventually put an end to the calls for the utter destruction of the empire.   Tenebris Inquisitorea - As far as both historians and kitzbach judges were concerned, members of the Tenebris Inquisitorea were unglorified, state-sponsored terrorists that grossly abused their power to accuse people they had personal grudges with of heresy and then arrest them. For the duration of their power, they arrested and executed hundreds of thousands on little to no evidence for heresy or treason. Instead of enforcing the law and upholding domestic security, they used their power to arrest an unknown number men, women, and children and mercilessly tortured and murdered on the grounds of treason or heresy that in most cases had no evidence at all.

They were the ones building the roads, training the armies, and producing whatever their allies needed of them.
Major Imports
As a mostly industrial power, the empire struggled with food production and heavily relied on the chev'ronian humans for food as none of their other allies were agricultural powers. They also received battle vehicles from the goblins, and able-bodied soldiers from the Tsaaskxi and Veer orcs to build massive armies. The veer also produced less advanced technology such as field cannons and later artillery cannons.

Author's Notes

The dusk elven empire is strongly inspired by the darkest age of Catholicism (or rather the perception thereof, as the Spanish inquisition was a lot milder than they are portrayed). Their form of worship has near identical characteristics to the worship of the holy lord and his son Jesus Christ, the main difference being that the son of Kragen is not worshipped, and the empire is far more cruel. While not intended as a bash on organized religion, researching the darker age was rough, and it was difficult to really exaggerate, as real life was morbid enough on its own.   Aside from Catholicism, the dusk elven empire is also heavily influenced by the Third Reich which is unsurprisingly all bad, particularly the preaching of genetic perfection and discipline despite the obvious clear-cut degenerate actions going on. Much like Adolf Hitler was turned on by poopoo, the most powerful figures in the empire (aside from the staunchly loyal Ascenda) are all completely degenerate deviants with loyalty to themselves first, the empress second and Kragen third.   Finally, their military structure and some of their cultural sections as well are heavily roman.
