Smythes Cleaners

Timothy Smythe has long been in the laundry business in a neighborhood where most do their own laundry. His friend Dierdre What he has been doing is laundering his profits from the thieving that he and his band of urchins that live upstairs. These children he refers to as the "gentlemen bastards" were all orphans trained for a better purposes. When the children are younger they are trained as the swell mob either teasers or snatchers for the purpose of pickpocketing. The laundry also serves as an office for a chimney sweep business which is used for sweeping a home clean of it's valuables. The older residents referred to as the windows crew will fleece a house once they have intel gathered by the sweep after sufficient time has passed. Among the windows crew are the Fonsa twins Kaleb Fonsa, Belandra Fonsa and Eladrin Saresa who though not by appearance is the oldest in the den. The laundry serves as a cover for all the stolen articles of clothing including handkerchiefs and handbags. It also serves as costume stock for any advanced jobs or superior cons.

Purpose / Function

Serves as a cover business for a young den of thieves and a means of storing stolen goods under the pretense of them being laundered.

Alterations

What was already a boarding house has been above a storefront have been converted into two flats of dormitories for even smaller people. In some cases tents have been moved into central living areas to provide more living rooms for some urchins. around a central living area. One Master bedroom has been covered into a costume shed.

The rotting shingles of this building are stained in customary island old lady grey.

History

Smythes was once a boarding house for sailors fallen into horrible disrepair. Smythe opened a laundry below and a "guiding home" for wayward children upstairs.

Sailors from abroad coming into Portsmouth unawares of what the building is actually used for actually do stop in to get their laundry done.
