Edish (EH-dish)

The Edish are the people native to Tuls Eden. Tuls Eden is a city state on the Farhen Peninsula. Tuls Eden is ruled by a class of Mage Oligarchs that are in conflict with one another almost as much as they are with their neighbor to the west, another city state called Kijarro. Having more fertile land than their neighbors makes Tuls Eden an appealing target for its enemies but also allows for the upkeep of elite mercenary armies. The Farhen Peninsula knows blood and gold well.   The Prevalence of arcane arts in Tuls Eden has had two notable effects on it ever since its separation from The Ackramorian Empire. Powerful mages often make their home in or near the capital city in order to participate in government and to meet and work with other powerful mages. The city state also attracts many young hopefuls that seek the teachings of the Mage Oligarchs. Due to the Vocumos Effect, once these mages have completed their training and become lesser mages, they are forced leave the city in order to further their arcane education and cast spells without regulation or fear of inciting the annoyance of the Mage Oligarchs. As a result, every year hundreds of young mages venture out to all corners of Jeharr from Tuls Eden. These mages easily find employment and homes in places that lack access to mages.

Culture

Shared customary codes and values

The Edish people have worked hard to keep the danger and violence that surrounds them at arms length, creating a tentative, protected center surrounding the capital city. The Edish have grown to despise war and bloodshed as it has created a constant drain on funds, resources and lives over Tuls Eden's short history. Warfare and violence are seen as great and terrible barriers to progress and prosperity. The Edish also view outsiders as being ignorant and dangerous.   The Edish appreciate the arts and ambition. The Edish people also famously promote literacy and education as the best methods of social mobility and of ensuring the future of Tuls Eden.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

As a society of arcanists and mages, the Edish people have high standards of beauty, often involving magical flair such as potions and illusions that cause one's eyes to display images, or that cause one's voice to be accompanied by sonorous bells. A combination of old imperial and lively dancing color make up the Edish look. In some ways, Edish fashion even makes Chandrian dress look dull.
