{-1,-1} Sunken City

Description:

Located at the bottom of a steep ocean dropoff just off the coast of Jaytown lies a ruined city of unknown origin. The founding expedition was only able to explore just a fraction of this sprawling lost metropolis. Mysteries abound in this strange place, with multiple aboleths and their enslaved subjects patrolling the streets for reasons unknown and a creeping presence seeming to enter the minds of explorers who dare to tread these waters.

Lore Summary:

The Sunken City was first spotted during the clearing of some chuul off the coast of Jaytown. A series of expeditions were initiated to map out the city, exploring some of the prominent landmarks and structures that still were intact. During exploration it was noted that there was an unusual presence of sahuagin and multiple aboleths patrolling the city. The former seemed to have been enslaved by the latter. As expeditions into the city increased, many archaeological discoveries hinted at a mysterious entity known as the “Voice of the Deep”. This entity started to make its presence known to adventurers through psychic interference and dreams. With the discovery of Krakens also within the area, it became apparent that there was something in the sunken city attracting these creatures: The Pearl of Mythos. This mysterious pearl was guarded by the Voice of the Deep up until Jaytown heroes banded together to help the Voice fight the aboleths and krakens. After the battle, the Voice was forced into a deep rest in response to the expended energy. This left the heroes of Jaytown to take the Pearl back to town to protect it, in which it promptly hatched, revealing the creature known as Azshara.

Later investigations into the palace revealed that Illithids had at one point gained control of the city’s leadership, and may have been a contributing factor to its downfall.

Story Hooks:

• The Voice of the Deep seems to be in deep slumber within a deep trench. Very little is still known about the mysterious being or how it came to be. (DM Consultant: Jess)

• The little Azshara has not yet visited the Deep City and knows very little of its history. Who knows what might be revealed if it were allowed to explore. (DM Consultant: Jess)

• There is a sunken library with Tomes of Great Knowledge if you can get past the poison jellyfish fields

• Little is known about the city’s history and culture outside its worship of the Voice of the Deep. There may be innovations or historic relics still lying around (DM Consultant: Jess)

• Will Drinkwater house is at the bottom of an Ocean trench. Will needs to find a "brain" for his "house". (DM Consultant: Nick)
