Zerenda's invasion

Military action

The day when life in Ivendarea changed dramatically - and forever - as a foreign force attacks the peaceful peninsula with the intention to conquer, subject, and establish a new colony.

Coming from the southeast prince Zerenda's invasion army landed on the coast of Ivendarea, completely unsuspected by the nyr.   Zerenda was the youngest of three siblings, rebellious, disobedient, and ambitious. His father, the ruler of a kingdom that doesn't exist anymore today, was getting too old and weak to rule, and with a trick he wanted to get rid of Zerenda to leave his country to his other son and daughter, whom he considered worthy. To regain the king's trust, allegedly, Zerenda was given command over a considerable army to conquer Ivendarea. The king had had an eye on the green fertile lands for a while, and while the journey was far it could prove lucrative, could they establish a colony there. He fully expected that the boastful Zerenda would fall in the war - and if he didn't the king would greet him with his own army upon his return. Zerenda, not knowing of the trap, agreed. He wanted to prove himself and become a king as well.   There was little to no resistance from the nyr initially, since they had never fought a war before, keeping to themselves and avoiding conflicts with foreign nations - they had their internal quarrels, but those had been mostly fought with magic, not with the siege engines and other weapons that were brought by Zerenda's forces.   The nyr's advantage was that they knew the country better than anyone else, and so the conflict was dragged out nearly a decade - until Zerenda eventually managed to conquer Canwyl, the capital, slaying king Fannyel who had remained in the royal palace until the end, refusing to give in to the intrudors. Fannyel's wife Ylla and young daughter Brestine had been sent away only weeks prior in a stealth mission, only just escaping capture, and brought to safety to the island Maan Garth.   With Fannyel's death the moral of Ivendarea's troops plummeted and soon afterwards the remaining generals surrendered or fled to Maan Garth. Those that surrendered were executed by Zerenda's soldiers.   Zerenda declared himself the new King of Ivendarea instead of returning to his home, having seen the potential and riches of the lands. When his father heard of this treason he immediately threatened another war - just before being murdered by his other two children, who didn't want to get dragged into another pointless fight and instead split their homecountry into two new separate kingdoms, ruling side-by-side, but independently. Zerenda was still banished from ever returning - but it didn't take long until more people followed from the old, now torn realm that was about to get dragged into a civil war between brother and sister to live in his newly established kingdom of peace and riches.   The nyr became second-class citizens in their own home, but after the terrors of the war and the loss of their kind initially they obeyed... but a true peace was never achieved. But Zerenda's final victory over the nyr during his invasion marks the beginning of this era. the 28th of Hevra in the year 8452 EE is the day he crowned himself the new king and seized the thrown, just before giving the order to kill the remaining generals of Fannyels army.
