Vaaselhouse Hospital
Vaaselhouse Hospital is a hospital for the elderly, the infirm, and the disabled. Located on the outskirts of Walsfell Beck in Uflary, it is a place generally avoided by the perfectionist nation. Being sent to Vaaselhouse is seen as an end to life, and of that persons worth. After all, a person that is not perfect can't live life to the fullest and have no place in Uflary society. Those imperfect are to be kept hidden.
Vaaselhouse was originally built as a school for unruly boys, called Vaaselhouse School for Unruly Boys, but after a series of incidents that left several students disfigured, the school was closed down. For several decades, the building stood empty, until the philanthropic merchant Arohorn Kivitsk bought it and restored it. He established the Vaaselhouse Hospital. He gained a very good reputation for taking pity on those unsuited for Uflary society, but it always was a ploy to earn more money and to get that better reputation.
Those working at Vaaselhouse are considered very benevolent and kind people just by virtue of working to take care of those imperfects. It is a well-paid job, with the perk of being looked highly upon by everyone else. Nobody tends to question how the caretakers take care of those living under their care; as such, mistreatment is common.
Life expectancy at Vaaselhouse is low, and generally, not many people care. It's to be expected; Vaaselhouse is the last stop for many people, and those sending their family there have no doubts that they will be able to get their relative within only a few years. It's not uncommon for people to leave their relative at Vaaselhouse exactly because that is expected. Some even disfigure their relative on purpose, so that they would be able to leave them in Vaaselhouses care. Particularly girls not considered good enough to be wed are left with the hospital.
Sometimes, people who complain will show up. They are considered disrespectful and shunned. The employees at Vaaselhouse are doing their best, giving those imperfects a dignified end despite their flaws and lack of worth. Most people who complain end up having to move away, to escape the vitriol of the rest of society around them.
