The Chiming Bowl

The Chiming Bowl is a bowl made out of obsidian and diamond powder, forged by the blacksmith couple Gerras and Kharryl Rozzenn. They have a young daughter by the name of Sarselle, who fell ill with the incurable disease Shivering Core. The Shivering Core is an illness that causes the infected to be permanently shivering as if terribly cold. This causes the person incredible difficulties doing most anything, even speaking due to chattering teeth. Yet, despite supposed to not be able to get better, the girl became better. She was only better for a while, but mystified, many healers came to see the family, and eventually it was discovered that what made her better was the meal that she ate out of the bowl that her parents had made. The food had to be eaten out of that specific bowl, and it had to contain rice cooked in meat broth. Many different bowls were made, but only the obsidian and diamond powder had these properties. Only some blacksmiths seemed able to make bowls which actually gave the bowl its curing properties, and the correlation between them seem to be that they get coals for their braziers from the same supplier.   It's still only a temporary solution, but discovering even a partial cure to an illness that has forced rulers to abdicate is a great breakthrough for the medical field, even if they have yet to understand exactly why this seems to help. The theory is that something in the obsidian, diamond, rice, wood, and meat broth cause some strange chemical or magical reaction that give those with Shivering Core a respite from their suffering. Scholars and healers are working to find a way to make the effect permanent, and easier to replicate.   The Rozzenn bowls have shot up in market value and is exported to many temples in particular. This has caused the couple to be able to expand and move out of their ramshackle home, giving both their town, Mollanuhr, and them, a wide-spread reputation.   The name Chiming Bowl comes from the feeling that their daughter Sarselle described when she ate from it; "it feels like the bells from the temple ing inside me".
