Dix Rising Myth in Ivaenni | World Anvil

Dix Rising

Many centuries ago, sometimes around the end of the Age of Misfortune, a changeling by the name of Dix would roam the countryside looking for work. They had been run out of their home for being too big of a prankster, but they seemed unbothered, instead taking it as an opportunity to see the world.   They would see that there was much misery in the world, a result of the age they were living in, where dynasties fell before they had the chance to form, assassinations were abundant, and famine widespread.   Dix, upset at seeing how the people were suffering but knowing there was little they could do, decided to at least try to lift peoples spirits temporarily. The only way that they knew how to do that though was with games. After all, Dix loved playing games, and they were a nice distraction from reality.   Dix would seek out places to set up some game or other, collecting more types of them as they further travelled, and felt warmth at the smiles that they could see on the dirty, gaunt faces as people for a little while didn't think about all the suffering they were going through.   One day, in the middle of a game of cards, Dix was overcome with emotion as they faced a new opponent, a woman with a veil of sorrow over her face, and tears fell down Dix' face. The tears fell onto the cards, painting new pictures onto their surface. In the cards, Dix saw futures, pasts, possibilities, and awakened to a power of unfamiliarity to them. The woman smiled sadly at Dix when they looked up, and as she did, Dix knew that she was a goddess, one simply called The Maiden Beneath The Plum Tree. She had gifted Dix with a power to See, making them an oracle of hers.   Dix would initially avoid playing cards, as they feared these new powers, however eventually they would listen to The Maiden and with the help of their visions, they would help lead the era to one of peace, ending the Age of Misfortune and leading them into the Arcane Age. Unfortunately, not much is known about what exactly Dix did, but the result was their death.   As a reward they had never been promised, The Maiden, in response to the tears felled for Dix, granted Dix another chance of life, but not as a mere mortal; Dix was raised to be a deity, come to be known as The Gamester, who travels the world spreading joy with their games, still capable of Seeing, which now is a power that they use to seek out those most in need of some lifting in spirits.
