Bearox

A bearox is a cross between a bear and an ox. It's a rare pet, but a sought-after one.
It is said that the bearox was made by a wizard for a farmer that he loved by merging a bear and an ox together with magic. Some people believe that it was created through breeding, but it's more widely accepted that it was created with magic, even if the wizards spell composition never have been found even though his tower still stands. The wizard would, either way, go about creating several specimens of the new species, making it possible to breed them.
All Bearoxes are meant to be hermaphrodites with both male and female functioning reproductive organs. Rarely is it that a farmer that discovers that a newborn bearox is only one of the two keeps it; it's generally sold on to be a pet for a high price. It's a very popular pet with the wealth in certain countries.
They are selectively bred in only one village, Harmony, in Choustaoblea. They hold the sole breeding facility right, as the village where the first bearox was created. They have various facilities there, some breeding for the sake of making stronger working animals, some to create more fierce war steeds, some to create gentler creatures to be pets.
First and foremost, the bearox is kept as farm animals. They have a large reservoir of stamina, and are capable of working for hours on end. They are used as war steeds in some places, as they can carry a lot of weight, so that even fully armoured goliaths can ride them. They are also fairly unafraid and can work up a frenzy if sufficiently provoked, which speaks to their favour in battle. So does their powerful bites, with beaks full of sharp teeth, and their paws with vicious claws. The smaller ones are usually the ones kept as pets by the wealthy, as they are seen as a status symbol due to the cost of buying and keeping one; the larger ones are reserved for war.
