Etymology

The name Nin is derived from the ancient Ninski word to meaning "to shine" or "to glimmer." This reflects the peninsula's shimmering coastal waters, golden sunsets. According to local legend, the first settlers named the land after seeing the sun reflecting brilliantly off the cliffs and waters of the peninsula, a sight they took as a divine sign.

Geography and Climate

The Principality of Nin occupies a wide peninsula with a prominent mountain range, known as the Azor Mountains, running halfway down its spine. These rugged peaks provide natural protection and serve as a source of freshwater through rivers that flow into the fertile coastal plains. The region enjoys a mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The coastal areas are lush and fertile, home to olive groves, vineyards, and citrus orchards. In contrast, the Azor Mountains are dotted with terraced farms and ancient stone monasteries. To the north, the Zalam Rainforest borders Nin, creating a unique transitional zone. This proximity has fostered trade and cultural exchanges between Nin and the Zalam rainforest tribes, whom the people of Nin regard with respect.

Government

The Principality of Nin operates as a plutocratic hereditary monarchy, a blend of inherited royal authority and wealth-based governance. The reigning Prince is the head of state and is drawn from the ruling House of Milčić whose lineage has presided over Nin while it was a subject of Clyvislant in the 3rd Era.

The Council of Zastánci, the primary governing body, is appointed by the monarch from among the wealthiest and most influential merchant families, nobles, and guild leaders of the principality. This council advises the prince and oversees the implementation of laws, trade policies, and infrastructure projects. By reserving the power to appoint and dismiss council members, the prince ensures loyalty and alignment with the state's vision.

The prince plays a direct role in policymaking, foreign diplomacy, and military oversight. While council members influence decisions through their expertise and economic resources. The Prince can issue royal decrees, arbitrate disputes between regions, and serve as the principality's final authority in matters of law and governance.
