Chronicles of the Realm Walkers: Session 8

General Summary

The roar silenced The Betting Poole, and the screams set things in motion. Theren and Lee, both near the door, saw a blueish white light shoot into the sky just stopping below the clouds before it faded. Theren recognized the light as being in the area of The Roar in the Storm and ran off. The rest of the party, including Oula and Sarasoul, followed. As the group ran through the city they started to notice small skirmishes as the shadows about the city were taking on inky bipedal lanky armed forms and were attacking anyone and anything nearby. The group, a few blocks from the Roar in the Storm came across a strange and terrifying site. The lamps on this stretch were iced over tinging the yellow light to blue. There was ice and snow covering the nearby buildings and the ground was covered in jagged ice. Standing in the center of the icy patch was a boneclaw (a failed lich) his foot on the throat of an inky black figure, and an injured Kobold crawling away. Theren and Lee both heard the familiar voice of Kyga in their minds asking them to "destroy him". The boneclaw looking down at Kyga spoke, "Go to sleep old man, I don't need you for this.", before turning his attention to the group.
A battle broke out. The bonclaw could summon shadows and had a variety of other strange abilities. The group was able to defeat the bonclaw but as the creature seemed to disintegrate it had a strange sort of smile on its face. Amidst the battle the injured Kobold had worked his way over to, and had placed himself in, a snow pile, piling snow on a large wound in his side. Rhy approached and started asking questions, Theren didn't believe him and threatened him. He initially claimed the undead appeared suddenly, that he heard the dragon roar and that the undead and shadow (Kyga) had started fighting. Lee in the meantime went to inspect the Roar in the Storm which he found to be entirely encased in ice, likely for defensive purposes.
Theren frustrated, left the Kobold to Rhy to also inspect the Roar in the Storm. Rhy charmed the Kobold learning his name was Megna and finally revealing the truth, that he had been hired in Krata to steal a dagger, the Paradox Blade, and if possible use it to stab the owner of the shop he was robbing. When asked who hired him he couldn't remember. Ranrus was able to identify that Megna was under some sort of curse. Ranrus identified the dagger and discovered its nature and that Di was now most likely trapped inside. Once the situation was explained to Theren an intense exchange started as they offered to take the place of Di. The party convinced Theren to wait. The next day Sarasoul returned to Phoenix Arcania House and Oula went looking for her sister. Rhy Went to "Mutta" and asked if they'd found anything. They had found the name of the man referred to as a necromancer King, Tensell Slooman. Ranrus removed the curse from Megna who revealed a great deal more.
Megna explained he didn't take jobs to kill people, but was approached by someone he presumed to be Human with sickly yellow white skin and scraggly grey hair, who smelt of death, for the job. When he had refused the job because the stabbing, he had clearly been cursed to believe he had taken the job. He also somehow knew subconsciously that if he successfully stabbed the shop keeper returning with the dagger didn't matter as much. He was offered payment to take Di's place in the dagger and initially refused but at the offer of one hundred thousand gold pieces he jumped at the chance. Megna now trapped in the dagger, Di presumably returned to whence he left, Theren, followed by the rest of the party, rushed to find him.
They found Di at the center of icy street. Seeing Theren he immediately asked "Where is Devendraw?" In the subsequent conversation in the street and back in the Roar in the Storm the party learned that Di had, as some suspected, trapped Devendraw, the boneclaw that led Oddi's army of undead that attack Snowbright hundreds of years ago. He was frustrated the party had returned Devedraw to Oddi, explaining that a boneclaws "death" only hastened its return to its master, and Devendraw would have a new body reform in Oddi's presence soon. He also explained the paradox blade was forged from a tooth of The Eternal Serpent . The party informed Di about Oddi being a lych, potentially returning Kynta, the necromantic throne, and the undead headed to Krata. While Di was intrigued by the throne and where they found it he also wasn't motivated to help in anyway. He made clear he had done his part by capturing and guarding Devendraw for all these years. The party grew frustrated and after a short continued exchange left the shop.
