Aarakocra

Aarakocra are a winged, avian species that live in small groups on the tops of mountains. Aarakocra were created by the goddess Tasnira and they worshiped her even when she was imprisoned within the earth. She created them as hunters, slayers of foul beasts and a more pure, primal people when compared to other mortal species. Aarakocra are a rare sight in civilization, preferring to remain to themselves, harboring a pure isolationist mentality. Aarakocra function as skilled and deadly hunters, adept at taking down large beasts with bows and their natural magic. The only occasions they venture out of their mountain homes are for their great hunts of monstrous beasts spotted in other parts of the world.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Aarakocra are of humanoid body type but with feathered body's and wings. They are often depicted as white feathered but can be shades of brown, tan, black and gray. Their limbs end in taloned appendages which work far better than regular fists in a pinch.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Unlike most sentient mortal creatures, Aarakocra are pure carnivores. They eat mountain goats, birds, rodents and other animals they can catch.

Due to their living in mountains, Aarakocra are mostly concentrated in the mountain range of the dragonspine range as well as parts of Andusia and Jezat.

Aarakocra are less intelligent than humans are but have a greater degree of wisdom. Their intelligence is mainly primitive and has the resemblance to the intelligence of humans during the more primitive stone age cultures.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Aarakocra have blood rituals they do where they kill calves and bathe in their blood before they go on hunts. They do this around a burning altar while they sing praises to Tasnira. They also have a tradition where during their new years, the entire family goes out to hunt a great creature for them to feast on in celebration. At times, the tribes may collaborate to call a great hunt when large and monstrous creatures are spotted. They then journey out of their mountain homes to hunt down this creature, killing it with arrows and spears.
