The Battle of the Grunewalds
The Battle of the Grunewalds — a conflict also known as the Battle for Snowfell — is the battle that is said to have turned the tide of the Lusatian-Fespelan War to favor Lusatia. It is credited as being the beginning of the end of the war. This battle takes place in and around the village of Snowfell, which is in a vital position near the northern edge of Lusatia. If Fespela took this settlement, it would have the resting place needed to ensure their troops' survival over the bitterly cold Dying Season.
Despite the need for the settlement in the Dying Season, this battle was fought in the middle of the Living Season. The reasoning behind this was said to be the recent death of Viktor Grunewald. Viktor's death was said to have weakened the Lusatian troops' morale, and Fespela was hoping to break their morale completely with the battle, which they were sure would be a "quick and decisive victory".
Aftermath
The leader of the Lusatian Forces in this battle — Wulf Grunewald — was furious after the attack by the Fespelan Forces. His anger at his grieving period for Viktor — his grandfather — being interrupted led to the Fespelan Forces being pushed back far enough that Lusatia had regained all its lost territory and then some. After the string of battles following the Battle of the Grunewalds, Fespela called for a treaty. This treaty — named the Treaty of Viktor's Peace after Viktor Grunewald's dying wish for peace to be had — ended the war despite heavily favoring Lusatia. Fespela paid the reparations required of it by the treaty, and peace was finally had.
