The Forming Light
The essence of Raw Magic
Description
The Forming light is the all-enveloping and near-omnipresent force that permeates nearly all beings, and is how raw magic is accessed. The Forming Light is said to have spread from the All-Maker at the beginning of the world and is only truly controlled by two deities: Astela, the Archlight, from whom the Light flows from, and Neresa, the Monitor of the Leylines who serves as its caretaker and mender in times of emergency. The Forming Light flows in all things, both living and not, touching almost every corner of existence with the exception of Dead Magic fields and Antimagic zones. The Light can be tracked or perceived through the use of what are known as Light Lines, or Leylines. These lines carry magic through the world like blood through a vein, allowing it to flow throughout the land and sea.The Nature of the Forming Light
The Light is considered to be the power of the All-Maker that has endured after he formed the world, and permeated the multiverse. It acts as the source of magic, and is something that almost every mortal being has the potential to draw on. Some see it is being akin to a fabric from which threads of magic are drawn, and damaging it causes magic to go haywire.Arcane Magic
Casting an arcane spell is akin to telling the Light to rearrange itself to create an effect with nothing but one's own personal power and inner might. Many practitioners of Arcane Magic are well-educated Wizards, who have learned how the Forming Light can be bent and shaped to their will; others would be Sorcerers, those to whom the process of controlling magic is innate, and comes as naturally as breathing.Divine Magic
Casting a divine spell is akin to asking one's god or patron to manipulate the Light on their behalf. As per Eren's Law, a God's power can only be drawn upon by those who are especially faithful, but if the God deems it necessary then they can bend the Light on behalf of their faithful.Nature Magic
Nature Magic is wielded by Druids, and is based on manipulating the Light that dwells within nature itself. In many ways it is something of a middle-ground between Arcane and Divine Magic; a Druid would need to have the knowledge of how to manipulate the land, but must in equal measure beseech the land itself to work with them in order to achieve their magic.Manifestation
The Forming Light - at least in its purest form - very rarely manifests itself physically. When it does, it is perceived as a shimmer that surrounds a person or an area like a silhouette or a shroud. The Light has different colours and shapes depending on the individual, and each individual's Light is unique.
Generally, the size, shape, and colour of the Light corresponds to an individual's magical power. An especially powerful Cleric may have a Light that matches their God, whether manifesting as an intense golden flare or a raging storm, while a wizard's may appear as a more structured light akin to a constellation.
