Nama Trainer

Nama are the giant psychic catfish that are native to the Vithalian waters. They were among the main sea monsters that had to be purged from the area so that civilizations could prosper on the islands. After finally defeating them, the captured ones were bred by the military, their lineage resulting in todays' domestic breeds: powerful, but not cataclysmically so.
Trainers groom Nama for many uses, such as for riding / pulling boats, for Lazer Harpoon competition, search and rescue, as well as for battle use in the military.

Career

Qualifications

Trainers need strong mental fortitude, especially those who are taming Nama without restrainers. They need to be able to resist the psychic manipulation that the Nama tend to project. For that reason, Elves, Gnomes, and some lineages of Tabaxi, who are inherently built to defend against these charms, have an easier time at these jobs.

Career Progression

Typically, Trainers start working at the Nursery, where young catfish are raised. It is never a fun time because all though the children are not as sophisticated or masterful of their psychic abilities, they are chaotic and often malicious and overall just the worst to deal with. From there, they move up to training adolescents, where the majority of trainers are. This is general prep: behavioural conditioning and skill assessment. The very gifted trainers have the potential to move up to the ranks of personal Trainer, where they will work one on one with a Nama for two years to ensure it is ready for military use.

Payment & Reimbursement

Even when working in the Nursery, Nama Trainers get enough pay to live comfortably. Personal Trainers have very high wages.
