Tabaxi

The Tabaxi are a standard player character race, represented as sentient, bipedal leopard-, cheetah- or jaguar-like people. They chiefly reside in scattered settlements within the jungles of the Morta Jungla. The village of Hoga Selva lies on the border of the Jungla and the Alempara Savana, and is inhabited primarily by those Tabaxi who identify more closely with civilization.

Most Tabaxi maintain a neutral relationship with the Laeonids that inhabit the Savana, neither allying nor opposing their actions. While the Laeonids are prolific raisers of livestock, most Tabaxi prefer to gather food in family groups. However, some who live in the borders have taken up small livestock ranching as well.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Tabaxi on the Isle of Melas are very free with their romantic and reproductive habits, at least until a pregnancy. Males and females tend to cohabit with each other at whim when they are unattached. If a pregnancy occurs, the female is able to tell which male is the father and a ritualized, temporary bonding occurs. When the cub or cubs are born, the raising of the children is done by the family and the male is free to become unattached again.

Ecology and Habitats

Tabaxi live in and around the trees in the jungle, in complex treehouses and other arboreal structures. They use the wood and fronds from the trees and plants to construct dwellings that connect from tree to tree.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Tabaxi prefer small game, such as that found in the jungle over larger fare. Rabbit, weasel, squirrel, monkeys and other like animals satisfy their hunger.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Tabaxi children, both male and female who turn 12 years old have a unique Coming of Age ceremony called the Qncerixi. It involves the gathering and retelling of stories.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Tabaxi are only found natively in the Morta Jungla in central Melas.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Tabaxi speak the ancient Taba language, although some who tend to live closer to Laeonids settlements often speak a combination of Taba and Laeoni.
