Circumstances of Birth
Liviana's father Peciarello Aprilagata (17) was a seaman who worked on the rigging of expensive luxery ships that would sail around the coast of the Merchant Republic. It was during this time that he met a woman by the name of Yurlicia Cantecio (25) who was the daughter of a luxury carpenter from the top of the craftsmen caste. Yurlicia took an interest in Peciarello and his inexperience in the finer things in life as well as romance and lovemaking, and strung him along as a romantic and sexual companion when her family would vacation on the boats he worked. Peciarello was entranced with her, but to Yurlicia he was just a seaman boy who kept her bed warm on the open ocean. Yurlicia soon became pregnant, and while Peciarello was excited to start a family with the woman he loved, Yurlicia was horrified by the social implications of this child. Her father disowned, publically shamed, and kicked her from their home. This scandal also got Peciarello fired from one of the most well-paying jobs of his caste and status. The two ended up getting married, and by law Yurlicia was forced to demote her social caste to that of her husband. Weeks later Liviana was born as an accident into a strained relationship.Early Life
Liviana's home life was rough, as her mother blamed her for her demotion in social standing, and her father often worked to the point of near death doing odd jobs and dangerous whaling missions that saw him away for weeks at a time. Liviana took the brunt of her mother's verbal abuse, although her father shielded her and stood up for her when he was around. Despite the financials not supporting it Yurlicia refused to work, putting even greater strain on the desperate family. As soon as she was old enough to do work her mother forced her to, oftentimes without informing her father as to the nature of the dangerous work she would be performing. One day while out trying to sell fish guts Liviana saw her father kissing another woman. This shocked her to her core, as he had told her to "Be strong I'll be gone fishing for only 3 days." Out of fear of her mother, she said nothing of it, but it began to become a more and more regular thing until it was an open secret Peciarello had multiple mistresses. With these mistresses came more money, and hand me down clothing and gifts that Peciarello gave to his daughter, which brought her mother to even greater heights of rage.Early Adulthood
As a late teenager, Liviana began to think more about her future and the man she would end up marrying. This is where she earned her nickname "The Vulture" as she would often sneakily circle a man, accessing his interests, prospects, and family before swooping in. None of these young love relationships worked out, and her aging father urged her to seek a man of a higher caste. So that she may have an easier time in her later life. She then found him, a man from the low craftsmen caste, a brewer who worked in a vineyard. His name was Casimir Dolion. As she was a woman from the lower caste it was mostly on her to court the Casimir and to say he was disinterested at first would be an understatement. However, with persistence, she was able to get her virtues to shine through, at least enough for him to entertain her courtship. She proved to be a resourceful partner, aiding him in improving his winemaking and earning him a bit more of a survivable wage. She always effortlessly combined their diets and made delicious but filling meals from poor vegetables and fish scraps. As time and time went on she came to realize that Casimir really had 2 things going for him; his looks, and his caste. Besides that, he was kinda an idiot who somehow managed to stumble his way through life thus far, but that wasn't important to her. He was a settle, yes, but it surely wasn't a downgrade from any of her other prospects. Soon though a woman from the high craftsmen caste took note of Casimir and the excellent wine he was producing (through Liviana's advice). She would be an ideal marriage for Casimir, as it was impossible to climb to another caste entirely without an insane amount of wealth, but going from low to high brought a basic comfortability that many of the lower caste people would kill for. Liviana wasted no time bringing Casimir to bed in a section of the very vineyards he worked in. It was here they had sex, and most importantly to Liviana, conceived their first child.Adulthood
Liviana delivered the news of her pregnancy to Casimir who gave her a "devils smile" and embraced her while shaking. They got married soon after, and as her belly grew Liviana began to feel bad about what she had done, not baby trapping Casimir, but rather she felt bad for the baby that was used to spring the trap. She found comfort in the underground religion of Torm and would attend clandestine meetings during their pregnancy. Casimir took comfort in his situation with sex with Liviana, until it became far too dangerous for the pregnant mother, and drinking tons of cheap wine. Before long, in an abandoned warehouse that served as the Torm worshiper's temple Liviana prepared to give birth. Casimir showed up late, drunk, and with hickeys around his neck, but Liviana couldn't complain. The birth went incredibly smoothly, with very little pain or discomfort, and the baby's cries sounded like angelic hums. Then 3 clerics arrived, all wearing worn traveler's clothes but boldly presenting their Torm holy symbols to the congregation of people. They asked to see the newborn, which Liviana refused. Casimir asked them to cough up 5 gold each. Liviana glared at a shrugging Casimir as the 3 clerics wordlessly handed him 15 gold before he took the baby and drunkenly handed him over. The clerics smiled and swayed the newborn in their arms while also looking over his body "Stigmata" they were searching for and stigmata they found. Tiny golden scales, maybe the size of beans, covered the shoulders and joints of the baby. The clerics beamed wordlessly at the confused couple before returning their baby. They presented numerous gifts for the child, many of them very expensive, and also said they would regularly send money for the baby. Finally, the clerics said they would return to the child after his 10th birthday, but for what reason they would not elaborate. Then as quickly as they had arrived they left, leaving them with a choice; what to name the baby. Even though the initial birth of Kaz had been relatively easy, especially for childbirth, Liviana's body still needed time to recover, and working was an impossibility. Without Liviana's help, the vineyard managers quickly realized Casimir sucked, and cut his pay significantly, putting intense strain on the newly formed family. Casimir one day suggested they sell off Kaz's toys and clothes that had been gifted to him, and Liviana agreed, letting Casimir take all the items away. It would become clear later, that instead of buying food, paying rent, or really doing anything practical with the large sum of money Casimir earned, he instead used it to start an illegal underground gambling ring. This made Liviana deeply upset, because she knew that Casimir did not have the competence to run such an operation on his own, which either meant he was gonna fail, or he was getting help from one of his goomars. As soon as she was ready to work again she also began to help Casimir with his crime, if only to make sure he wasn't seeing any other women while doing so. When Kaz was old enough to walk and talk Liviana found herself doing the same thing her mother did to her, forcing her child to work jobs. It was a tough choice but ultimately a needed one because of Casimir. She had made the mistake of thinking another baby would fix their relationship and get Casimir to step up. Of course, she was wrong, Casimir was a money sink, drinking, gambling, and worst of all he liked to play the big shot with his mistresses, buying them gifts that would leave the family without money for days. It was after the birth of their daughter Scilla that Liviana's temper grew, and she would yell and scream at Casimir from the moment he got home to the moment the pair went to bed. Nothing seemed to break through his blissful ignorance, and it upset her even more to finally notice he never really paid any attention to their son or daughter. Casimir conceded this and began to have father-son time with Kaz. What Liviana found out was that Casimir used their young son to lure in women before attempting to court them. As the years went on, and Liviana continued to get pregnant with the hope Casimir would change, the desperation for stability and comfort would begin to consume her. She worked longer hours and spent more time at the rundown tavern they used to cover the gambling operation, she even began to use Kaz as a lookout, telling the young boy it was a game and rewarding him every time he would warn them of a Republic Warden patrol. She would soon begin to pick the golden scales from Kaz's shoulders until they were raw and bloody and use the money to buy his siblings books and clothes. To her, it was his responsibility as the eldest to care for his now 3 younger siblings. Still, however, life failed to improve, and the economic conditions of the city began to get worse and worse. Due to the caste system of the republic, the family was not free to move, or even to switch careers. Discontent grew, amongst all of the lower caste workers and it became clear that something was going to give, and that Liviana and her family would not be able to survive in their location much longer.Rebellion and Abandonment
The nature of the gambling ring meant that Liviana and Casimir were frequently in contact with more unscrupulous characters of the city and the republic as a whole. Rumors of armed rebellion and organized movements soon spread too frequently to just be stories. Something was happening, and it was happening soon. Liviana had no intention of fighting though, she had a better plan, escaping the republic. Immigration of lower caste people was strictly forbidden and punishable by death, but if there was chaos in the city the Wardens would be far too busy supressing the revolt to monitor the ships at harbor. Other families would need to be in on it though, as she and Casimir couldn't man a ship all by themselves, especially if they were at sea for a long time. With suspicions high, the harbor master would notice a low craftsmen caster like herself conversing with seamen who lived exclusively in the port of the city. So they would need someone who frequented the area to deliver correspondence and get everyone into place. Guilt ran through her veins like poison, was she really about to implicate her eldest son in a plot that could see him executed? To her surprise Casimir rejected the plan out of hand, he would neglect his children sure, but even this was too far for him. But history had taught Liviana that Casimir was an idiot and that he was content to fail and suffer for the rest of his life, but she wanted something different for her and her children. Maybe not wealth, but stability at least. Kaz was always closer to her anyway, so it wasn't hard to get him to do tasks for her without telling Casimir. Kaz also enjoyed the port harbor district and was well familiar with its layout, making him the perfect person to run letters between the plotting families. No one family knew the entire plan or the routes that would be needed to get everyone to the ship they were going to take. During these 2 weeks, Kaz's soul seemed brighter to her, like he was fulfilling his life's mission, a silly thought to be sure, the boy was only 9 he couldn't possibly fully understand what he was doing. But the silly thought kept Liviana sane and helped the guilt go down easier. Soon her entire family would be somewhere safe, and able to grow to their fullest potential. Maybe it would calm Scilla, Dainora could go to an actual school, Corio could grow up easily, hell it could even fix the "relationship" that she and Casimir had. And Kaz, she wouldn't have to pick the scales from his body or make him work on the weekends, he could be free to live normally, unburdened. It became clear days before the plan was to be enacted that the Republic Wardens had actually increased patrols around the port at the harbor master's request. Ironically enough it was because Kaz had been jumped by some older children, and the harbor master wanted to make sure he was safe while he was doing whatever he ran around doing. This had killed the plan, with increased patrols there was no way to make sure enough families got to the boat to crew it. Everything was falling apart; the city was on the verge of open revolt, Republic Wardens had shut down all travel, and food was nearly impossible to acquire. They had to leave, but someone needed to distract the Wardens with something important enough to draw them away from the boats, but there was no low-caster the Wardens would trust at a time like this. . .except maybe the harbor master. Even then, the harbor master was a high seaman he had no reason to risk everything for people he barely knew, but he would trust someone he did know. . .and he did know Kaz.Gender Identity
From a young age, Liviana has never really set comfortably with the gender binary of humanoid society and has always dreamed of the fluidity of elvish gender expression and identity. She once brought this concern to her father, whose response was "You don't got time to be worrying about all that, go prepare my lunch with your mom." From then on she never really committed much thought to it, as life moves fast, but recently she has been thinking about gender identity as her life reaches a comfortable normal.
Sexuality
Liviana is strictly heterosexual and never really considered intercourse with anyone who wasn't a man.
Education
Liviana had no formal education but was taught how to prepare a fish for sale. Her father taught her how to scavenge for discarded boat materials, repair clothing, identify Bride Finders, and gave her a creative solution finding outlook on life.
Employment
As a child, Liviana worked as a fishmonger's assistant transporting deliveries to various taverns and vendors. At 14 she worked with a local fish vendor, selling various types of fish stews and steamed fish to the workers of the harbor. She continued working this job when she began dating Casimir, even while she helped him with his work at the Vineyard. After she became married to Casimir she began to work full time at the Vineyard. After the Dolion family escaped to Ocular Liviana worked as a cook at a tavern, then as a winemaker after Casimir won their vineyard gambling. Now she is an effective worker-manager for the family business.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Liviana devised a plan to escape the oppressive caste system of the Merchant Republic which paid off with most of the families involved escaping. Due to her quick thinking, she was able to capitalize on her husband's gambling skills and acquire a small vineyard
