Amilié (a-MEEL-lee-ay)

"Dark am I, yet lovely..."   -Song of Solomon 1:5 NIV

Origins

Amilié was born to Serena, a dark elf queen who was unhappy and unloved with her husband. But Serena found warmth and belonging in Balmarrin, and conceived his child soon after. Despite her attempts to conceal the pregnancy, her husband uncovered the affair, killed Balmarrin, and cast Serena out.   Because Serena had to give birth and raise her child in exile, Amilié grew up as a low-born. While she never resented her mother or such an impoverished life, Amilié remembers being looked down on - even by other dark elves living in exile. For six years, it was just the two of them, until Serena encountered a man by the name of Fallien. He, too, had been thrown into exile and had a young son about Amilié's age. Though it took a couple years for Serena and Fallien to fall in love, they formed a new home and raised their children together.   For Amilié, those years passed rather quickly; she was happy with her new step-father and brother. Felt like they were her own.

Falling Out

A few years after Serena gave birth to her second child, Kal, she fell ill. Losing a mother was a painful blow to Amilié's life, and with it, she lost a big piece of her identity. She became a shell of a person, not feeling or aspiring much. And when her step-father left them to start a new life on his own, she began taking her frustrations out on Cador. Because of her unhappy home life, she hoped and dreamed about getting out like Fallien had. Starting anew.   Her opportunity for change came when she met Sweryn, the Prince of Ëolnir. Over the course of a year, he helped Amilié find her grounding. Not only was he a friend but a mentor who sharpened her fighting/stealing skills. He eventually convinced her to leave her brothers and live in the Ëolnir fortress where Sweryn played out his own broken, empty life.   It's fair to say they became a co-dependent pair, fixed on validating each other. Though Amilié missed her brothers, she remained by Sweryn's side. Their bond grew into a romantic relationship, and despite Sweryn being five years older than her, she was satisfied with her choice in mate. But their union was...not to be.   Amilié was a Blade by choice, but in many ways still a Ghost at heart. When her brothers came calling, she answered and betrayed her ties in Ëolnir. Like her mother, Amilié's choices left her in exile with nothing but wounds and regret.

Gathering Shards

In an effort to pick up her life and restore bonds with her family, Amilié sets out to the Kingdom of Lorianthil. There, she finds odd friends, a renewed sense of purpose, and an unexpected love interest.

From the Text

This excerpt takes place after Amilié's betrayal, and moments after one of her old comrades tries to murder her.
With his foot, Cador rolled Hura’s lifeless body to the side so he could kneel down to check on Amilié. She was wounded and terribly vulnerable. It reminded him of a time when Amilié was put into a coma for several weeks. She had been wounded and vulnerable then, too, and Cador had watched over her, waiting for her to come back into the world.   This was not so different.   He cupped a hand under her neck and helped her sit up, tore a piece from his own cotton shirt to wipe at the blood. “You just can’t stay out of harm, can you?” He kept his voice calm and somewhat compassionate. He didn’t have many healing supplies, only a small vial of tonic to burn away infection.   “I was ready to die.” Amilié sniffled as Cador dabbed at her cuts. The tonic stung where it touched, causing her to blink. “Thank you,” she said when he was done.   Cador remained silent. After tucking his tonic away, he crossed his legs to sit opposite her. After a moment, he heard Amilié sigh.   “Maybe I deserve to die,” she said. “Maybe I deserve to pay for what I’ve done.”   Cador met her eyes. “Consider it paid,” he whispered. He watched his sister lay down on her bedroll. There were several thoughts cramming inside Cador’s head, though he was content with the silence. Before long, he heard Amilié speaking again.   “If I die, I’m grateful for the chance to have seen you and Kal again.”   “Don’t give up,” he shook his head. “You’re going to recover, and you’re going to get Kal back.”   “Do you hate me?”   What a question. Cador dipped his head and answered, “I don’t hate you, Amilié. I hate what happened to us. I was supposed to watch over you and Kal, but I just can’t seem to.” He laid on his back, rested his hands along his chest. “When Fallien left, I felt such a burden, so much strain, and you know how I hate strain.” Then he felt the weight of Amilié’s hand on his shoulder.   “Yes, we had to grow up quickly, you and I. It’s no wonder we both went a little mad.”   Cador released a breath. “I wanted to come after you,” he said, turning to look at her. “But you seemed happy with Sweryn. Whole in a way that I could not give you.”   Amilié closed her eyes, let her tears soak onto the mat. “I’m not whole...I’ve lost everything: mother, you, Kal. And now I’ve lost Sweryn. It hurts so much.”   “You haven’t lost me, Amilié. Not entirely.”   She turned her face away from him, kept shedding her tears. “I don’t know how to make you like me again, Cador, but I know I’ll spend the rest of my life trying.”   Another sigh, another heavy breath. Cador stared at the ceiling above them, thinking on his sister’s words. They were true in a sense that he did not wish to admit. Amilié was his family, but there was no denying their bond had been severed. Still, if Amilié was willing to repair it, so was he.   “Perhaps we can start by retrieving what we’ve lost,” he said, turning his head once again. Amilié met his gaze there, a smile wearily glowing through her tears.   “All right.”

The bastard daughter of an exiled queen... She refuses to let her meager origins define her.

Quick look for Roleplaying

Race: Dark elf female   Alignment: Chaotic good   Skills and Equipment: Wields a set of dual blades and favors other small weapons like daggers and throwing knives. Her hand-to-hand combat is on par as well, making her good for covert assignments like heists and hits. Her racial abilities allow her enhanced strength and agility like all dark elves, but Amilié is unique amongst her kind; she possesses unprecedented magic abilities but has not received any training to hone those skills. In a pinch, however, she can provide supportive aid to a comrade and absorb powerful spells cast against her with little to no damage.
