Judiciars

Judiciars - The Masked Inquisitors

The Judiciars are not simply enforcers of law—they are manifestations of order. Towering figures clad in gleaming white and gold armor, every inch of their form is adorned with runes of divine authority, gilded filigree, and sigils of ancient law. Their masks, smooth and featureless save for a faintly glowing vertical slit where eyes might be, hide whatever humanity may—or may not—lie beneath.

The Presence of Judgment

A Judiciar does not speak.
A Judiciar does not need to.

When they enter a room, conversations falter, music ceases, and even the boldest hearts falter. They exude a gravity of presence, as though reality bends slightly around them, drawn into the orbit of the law they represent. Each step they take is silent, yet their approach is heralded by the faint crackle of latent magic beneath their feet—a warding spell that disarms illusion and deception, revealing lies and betrayal like oil rising in water.

They walk with spells cast beneath their feet, not by hand but woven permanently into their being—enchantments that enforce absolute clarity, divine silence, or immobilization of the unjust. Some say the ground where a Judiciar treads cannot lie for three days after their passing.

Origins and Nature

Whispers abound that the Judiciars are not wholly human—if at all. Some say they are chosen children, taken in infancy and reshaped by divine rites. Others believe they are constructs, husks of once-living knights whose souls were bound into armor, reanimated by the will of the Seraphim Order. The most heretical claim that they are avatars of forgotten angels, called forth by the prayers of Eldros' priests and bound by contract to serve forever.

No Judiciar removes their mask.
No one has ever seen one sleep.
No one has ever seen one bleed.

Duties and Powers

Judiciars are dispatched only when the law is challenged, or when faith and order risk contamination. They do not arrest—they judge on sight. Their armor is inscribed with the Edicts of the First Law, and each gesture they make can invoke binding spells, truthfire, or sentence-sealing wards. They do not debate. They do not ask. They declare.

In the Grand Basilica, they stand unmoving like statues—until a lie is spoken.

Judgment Manifested

When a Judiciar invokes punishment, it is through ritual motion, not violence. A raised hand might summon spectral chains of light. A pointed finger may brand a soul with guilt. Their armor sings with divine resonance, and their magic is unmistakable—primal, ancient, and inescapable.

They carry no weapons, for none are needed. Their very presence is a verdict.
