Vellan Dominion

On the world stage there are but a few players who've thrived throughout the ages. The Kingdom of Atreus, the Axial Empire, the Kingdom of Derathain, the Reman Empire, and the Federation of Advent. These long-standing nations have shaped the ages, but there is one with a history much shorter than all these others which nonetheless has become one of the most influential nations in the long history of creation, the Vellan Dominion.   The Dominion began it's existence as a small city on the edge of an expansive swampland, at the time known as Mallas but now known by the name of Sudenda. It was here that warlords from the east would gather under flag of truce to discuss a union of their might. At this time the lands east of the brass plateau extending to the coastline were divided amongst warbands who viciously fought each other to expand the territory of each. While they were individually powerful enough to contend with each other, they were treated as little more than unsavory brigands and mercenaries by the mighty neighboring states.   And so in Mallas the warlord Segrin Vellas brought together the bands and suggested the impossible, an equal alliance. How he managed to convince the others of his plan is a matter of extensive debate across creation, but the historians of the Vellan Dominion claim it was the unmatched charisma of Segrin Vellas paired with the enticing prospect of spreading their territory further out rather than simply trading back and forth among themselves that ultimately sealed the agreement. However he managed it, Segrin Vellas formed the council of warlords and named the collected territory under the council's purview the Dominion.   Though it took time to organize their forces, the united might of the warlords soon expanded the Dominion to the very verge of Larathorn in the north and south along the Cerulean mountains even as far as the Azure Shores. Vellas began building up a small navy to ensure control over the peninsula to the east and along the southern coast. So successful was his campaign that the council named him the first Dominate, leader of the council for as long as he could hold the position.   The elves of Larathorn held their borders firm against Dominion invasion, but did little to protect the lands beyond. At this time the Axial Empire was preoccupied with matters and left their eastern borders poorly supported. This left Salahdin and Atreus to manage the expanding state to their southeast, a task that Atreus would dedicate significant resources to, halting Vellan western encroachment north of the brass plateau. Salahdin, facing far less threat from the warlords who saw little value in the desert, was content to merely hold the pass of Ruin and even became the first trading partner with the rapidly solidifying Dominion.   Though challenges did arise during Segrin's life, none were able to unseat him as Dominate until his death at the age of 102. His successor and secondborn son, Dominate Ferick Vellas, would call for the Dominion to be named in his father's honor and thus was born the Vellan Dominion. Over the reign of a half dozen Dominates the Dominion became an equal in power to those mighty states which surrounded it, both politically and militarily. Indeed, an obsessively powerful united military and a fierce campaign of propaganda has led those citizens who reside in Vel to an unwavering nationalism not seen anywhere else outside perhaps the Federation of Advent.   While the Dominion is now seen as a singular state, it is still officially made up of allied territories under the control of a warlord, all of whom sit upon the council. Though it is difficult to imagine fragmentation at this point, the might of Vel is founded upon the continued expansion of territory and wealth. Should such expansion cease, none know what outcome will arise.
