Redtower

Perhaps the most enigmatic of the towers of western Axia, the Redtower is stunning to behold. It gleams like a ruby in the sunset and seems to shine even by moonlight. When touched the deep red stone of the tower is perpetually warm. This feature is perhaps the first overtly magical effect one will perceive of the Redtower, as the tower interior is perpetually kept at a stable 26 degrees. This is through no action on part of the residents, but seemingly a feature of the structure itself.   Of course, the stone of the tower is unlike any other seen across the empire or the wide world beyond, though many claim this stone is simply a naturally occurring if rare mineral none know the true source of the stone. Of course, theories abound regarding the source of the building materials as they do about the building itself and its sister towers. Theories range from the mundane to the divine to the conspiratorial, with some claiming the towers were conjured by an Avatar in the ancient times while others claim that the towers are simple constructions and that all the myth and legend surrounding them is simple imperial propaganda.   Whatever the true case, there are scholars who've spent their lives studying the towers and Redtower in particular. While the Hightower Guard controls its eponymous Hightower and the fleet is commanded from Fivetower, the emperor has named Redtower as a seat of scholarly and magical study. This is likely owing to its position as the least valuable militarily, but there are many unique features of Redtower which make it suited to such work. For one, the stone of the tower seems to impart both a resistance to fire and a greater control of fire-based magics, quite the boon to any library or store of written knowledge. The tower also seems to enrich the lands around it, with the immediate surroundings of the tower being some of the most effortlessly fertile land in the empire. Certainly the emperor would love to harness that later capability to vastly increase the food supply of the empire.   The other great mystery of Redtower is the positioning of the structure itself. It sits closer to the water than of the others, save of course for Deeptower which is sunken beneath the sea far to the west. Considering the supposed prehistoric construction of the towers and their unique properties, most scholars are convinced that their odd positioning is meaningful in some way, though there is no consensus on precisely how.
