Pyrrian Phage

Up until recently the Pyrrian phage was one of the most deadly viruses to grace Isesda. Originating on the Reman island of Pyrria, this plague spread rapidly via water and proved unusually resilient against the salinity of the seawater. This led to the virus spreading into Adventi-controlled areas that were woefully unqeuipped for such a foe, having never faced a viral agent that could survive over extended periods in the open ocean. For many years in was held in check only through harsh measures of the Federation of Advent and magical curatives made available en masse by Adventi mages. The virus was found to affect nearly any marine life, leading some more xenophobic Aventi to believe that Pyrria had somehow manufactured the disease for the purpose of weakening the Federation's position relative to the Reman Empire. The Remans took such speculation well, all things consdiered. They too had a powerful need to halt the spread of this horrific plague as most of their islands relied heavily on the sea for food and travel. They worked closely with Federation researchers and aided in the discovery that the virus was in fact attacking a bacteria common in many marine creatures, including the Adenti. Just over two years ago a group of Adventi and Reman alchemists were able to fabricate a counteragent which, when released in seawater would attract the Pyrrian virus at great range and, once the virus began attaching itself to this counteragent it's replication would be damaged, generating more counteragent rather than repiclating itsel. This treatment has paired well with the Adventi's magical efforts to contain the spread of the phage and both teams are hopeful that the phage may even be completely eliminated within another 5-7 years. While this partnership has been an excellent decision and undoubtedly is helping to save many Adventi lives (among others) the Federation is quite nervous about anyone having knowledge about a virus so devastatingly effective against them, especially given that Advent's greatest strengths have come from their ability to control where foes must engage with them and their aquatic home being exceptionally unwelcoming to air-breathing peoples.
