Hightower

Hightower is the base of operations for the Order of Axial Knights of Hightower, more commonly known as the Hightower Guard. The tower has become interwoven with the identity of the order and stands as a monument to the strength of the Axial Empire and of the emperor himself. None in Axia know the true original builders of the towers on their western coast, but they are supernaturally resilient and seem to be excellent at extracting magical power from creation, particularly Redtower which is across the water from Hightower on the mainland. Hightower sits, as the name suggests, higher than all the other towers upon a rocky island just off the westernmost coast of the White Plains. From a distance the tower seems to be a floating, green-stone fortress rising out of the mists. As one draws closer it becomes clear that it is not floating, but rather built to a height normally reserved for mountains. When Axial forces came into conflict with the Federation of Advent upon colonization of Aranel it was Hightower that commanded the Fivetower Fleet to defend against the aquatic forces arrayed against them. Adventi admit that they've rarely faced such adequate opposition from land, a great compliment coming from the Federation military. In truth, the tower seems to have a magical gift of its own just as the other towers have been seen to. The power of Hightower seems to fortify defenses and grant its controllers great success in battle within a relatively close range. Mages and scholars from across the empire, and even beyond in some cases, have sought permission to study the tower in greater depth, but the order have denied entry to most. The emperor seems content to allow his knights unilateral discretion in the management and upkeep of Hightower and the surrounding area so for the foreseeable future it is unlikely any will be able to assess the tower in depth with regards to magic, but that only ads to its mysterious allure.
